OSM Maritime Launches OSM ON

Ship management company OSM Maritime has launched a portfolio of ‘industry first services’ with the introduction of OSM ON. The new product will be offered to a customer base that not only includes owners, but also insurance companies, financial institutions and brokers. It utilizes the company’s recently opened Maritime Operations Center in Singapore – which digitally connects all vessels under OSM management, and all activities with real-time visibility and transparency – to provide 24/7 response and risk management support services.

Rescuers Searching for Overdue Kiribati Ferry

Search and rescue crews are searching for a Kiribati passenger ferry that has gone missing with an estimated 50 people on board in the central Pacific. The 17.5-meter wooden catamaran MV Butiraoi was reported overdue Thursday night, after departing Nonouiti on January 18 for a two-day, 260-kilometer voyage to Betio Tarawa. “We understand the vessel underwent repairs to its propeller shaft just before it departed. This may have contributed to problems navigating the journey,” said Rescue Coordination Center of New Zealand (RCCNZ) senior search and rescue officer John Ashby. “The weather in that part of the Pacific is currently moderate with some swells,” Ashby said.

CMA CGM Organized Towing Exercise

The Maritime Prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea, in liaison with the CMA CGM Group and Les Abeilles (Bourbon Group), organized a towing exercise between a large container ship, the CMA CGM Marco Polo, and the Abeille Languedoc, including an ‘intervention’, ‘assistance’ and ‘rescue tug’ (RIAS), off the coast of Le Havre. Thus on y, July 21, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 4:40 pm off Le Havre, the CMA CGM MARCO POLO simulated engine damage to enable the crew of L’Abeille Languedoc, the assessment and intervention teams (IEE) and the Maritime Operations Center (COM) of the Maritime Prefecture of the English Channel and the North Sea to train at sea, in real conditions, with a large platform.

Phoenix Express 2016 Concludes

Maritime forces from North Africa, Europe, and the United States concluded exercise Phoenix Express 2016 with closing ceremonies in Souda Bay, Greece May 27. Phoenix Express, sponsored and facilitated by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), is designed to improve regional cooperation between partner nations, increase maritime domain awareness, information sharing practices, and operational capabilities to achieve safety and security in the Mediterranean Sea. Capt. Bryan Durkee, Commodore, Task Force (CTF) 67 stated, “Phoenix Express is a great opportunity for us to work operationally and tactically in the maritime for the safety and security in the Mediterranean. At no time is it more important to be aware of what is going on in the maritime environment.

Dover, London CGOC Join National Network

Press release - Dover and London Coastguard Operations Centers (CGOC) have become part of the new Coastguard national network. Work has been carried out at both search and rescue coordination centers to upgrade the technology and introduce new systems. This means Dover and London CGOC will be connected to the National Maritime Operations Center (NMOC) in Hampshire and other Coastguard stations around the country, which will be able to offer mutual support and share work during busy periods.

USS Porter Hosts Albanian Dignitaries

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) hosted a reception for senior Albanian defense officials aboard the ship September 26. The reception was an expression of Porter’s appreciation for hosting the ship and its crew in Vlore, and it also served to strengthen the ties between the U.S. and Albania. Papal Visit to Impact Marine Transportation System

The Captain of the Port, Delaware Bay, is notifying mariners that vessel traffic transiting the Delaware River and Schuylkill River, in vicinity of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from September 25, 2015 to September 28, 2015 will likely experience delays. As a preventative measure, we ask maritime stakeholders in the region, ranging from large vessels to uninspected passenger vessels, to provide advanced notification and to engage with our Papal Visit Maritime Operations Center’s (MOC) and the Marine Transportation System Recovery Unit (MTSRU), well in advance of anticipated vessel transits between September 25th and 28th. Fire Aboard US-flagged Car Carrier

A car carrier vessel has suffered a fire on one of its decks, approximately 40 miles off Harwich, the U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) reported. The U.S. flagged ship, Courage, reported the fire to the U.K. Coastguard at Dover Maritime Rescue Coordination Center just before 10 p.m., June 2. Using an inbuilt CO2 system to, crew members flooded a large area to put the fire out and continued their journey. The situation is currently contained. A Dover Coastguard RAF Wattisham helicopter was on standby, but was not needed. The vessel is now coming to Southampton where it is being monitored by the National Maritime Operations Center, MCA said.

U.S., Ghana Complete AMLEP 2015

U.S. and Ghanaian and maritime forces completed Africa Maritime Law Enforcement Partnership (AMLEP) 2015 operations, Feb. 24, 2015. The Military Sealift Command’s joint high-speed vessel USNS Spearhead (JHSV 1) and an embarked combined law enforcement detachment (LEDET), working in tandem with Ghanaian navy’s Western Naval Command Maritime Operations Center (MOC) and patrol vessels, were able to detect three vessels that were violating Ghanaian maritime law and cite them for follow-on judicial action. The combined Ghana-U.S. efforts—another example of the Global Network of Navies—improves interoperability between both nations and helps deter illicit activity that threatens freedom and security in the global commons.

Georgia joins US in Maritime Operation

The U.S. and Georgian maritime sectors rolled out new Joint Maritime Operations Center (JMOC), which was built at the Coast Guard Supsa Radar Station on the Black Sea coast, reports Azer News. JMOC was established under the Coast Guard Department of Georgia's Internal Ministry and equipped with joint management, control, communications and maritime surveillance systems. JMOC will improve the capability of the national agencies to secure Georgia’s maritime safety. The main task of the center is to prevent, detect and eliminate all kinds of illegal activities, maritime incidents and gross violations of maritime laws in Georgia’s maritime space that could pose a threat to the security of Georgia and the wider region.

Falmouth CGOC Joins National Network

Falmouth Coastguard Operations Center (CGOC) will become part of the new Coastguard national network for the first time this week. Work has been carried out at the search and rescue coordination center at Pendennis Point, upgrading the technology and introducing new systems. This means Falmouth CGOC will be connected to the National Maritime Operations Center (NMOC) in Hampshire and other Coastguard stations around the country, which will be able to offer mutual support during busy periods. From Saturday, November 1, 2014, Falmouth CGOC and the new national network will start to take on operations from Brixham Coastguard. The changes to Her Majesty’s Coastguard will see the NMOC and 10 other CGOCs around the U.K. work together to manage the workload.

No Hands ISR Project Involves US/Japan Firms

MSHIP Co., a San Diego naval design firm joins with Uemura Seisakusyo Co., Ltd. of Japan on the project. MSHIP has designed the next generation high-speed military platform — Stiletto ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) — which will focus on future warfare with extensive use of unmanned systems. The Stiletto ISR, a mothership for unmanned systems, will offer easy launch, support and retrieval of unmanned vehicles. MSHIP's products, including the Stiletto ISR, received great response at the 2012 Japan International Aerospace Exhibition.

Four U.S. Ships to Participate in Phoenix Express 08

Four U.S. Navy ships will participate in Phoenix Express 2008 (PE 08), a U.S.-hosted, multinational exercise designed to strengthen regional maritime partnerships and foster the ability to operate jointly, from April 8-22. Two ships from the Nassau Expeditionary Strike Group, the USS Nassau (LHA 4) and the USS Nashville (LPD 13); along with the USS John L. Hall (FFG 32) and USNS Patuxent (T-AO 201) will represent the United States in this two-week exercise. Twelve other nations were also invited to participate or send representatives, to include , , , , , , , , , , and . A comprehensive and robust training agenda will provide participants with numerous opportunities to operate together and develop productive relationships.
