MES Delivers 66,000 DWT Bulk Carrier

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) completed and delivered a 60,000 dwt type bulk carrier M.V. "INDIGO BREEZE" (MES Hull No. 1926) at its Tamano Works on 22nd February, 2017 to ARIST MARITIME S.A., the Republic of Panama. This is the 22nd ship of our “neo60BC”, the third Eco-Ship line up of our “neo series”. Service Speed  abt. * The vessel has four (4) cranes and five (5) cargo holds, and keeps the superior usability of “Mitsui 56”. * The vessel achieves over 60,000 deadweight with Panamax beam and keeps our neo56’s compatibility for ports and trade routes. * The vessel is designed for loading various cargos like coal, ore, grain, as well as lengthy/heavy cargo such as steel pipe and hot coil.

HHI Names 2 New Containerships in Ulsan

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), hailed the New Year by naming two 10,000 TEU containerships for a Greek shipping line, Oceanbulk Maritime SA. The naming ceremony was attended by Spyros Capralos, chief executive officer of Oceanbulk; Nicos Rescos, chief operating officer of Oceanbulk; Yoon Moon-kyoon, chief operating officer of HHI’s shipbuilding division; and 44 other guests at HHI’s yard in Ulsan. At the simultaneous naming ceremony, the vessels were named after the famous French and Spanish painters, Cezanne and Dali respectively.

Port of Vancouver Welcomes Maiden Voyage Car Carrier

The Port of Vancouver USA welcomes the 'Metis Leader' commanded by Capt. Nicanor V. Alcala of the Phillippines on her maiden voyage to the United States, informs Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS). The vessel was built in July of this year and was launched July 23, 2013. The Metis Leader is owned by Cyprus Maritime S.A. of Panama and is one of approximately 100 vessels the NYK Line currently has in service. The vessel is 656 feet in length and has a deadweight capacity of 18,200 metric tons.

M.V. New Direction Completed and Delivered

The 56,000 DWT Type Bulk Carrier with Huge Cargo Hold Capacity (over 70,000 m3) 157th Ship of Mitsui’s 56 Series Delivered M.V. New Direction. Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) completed and delivered a 56,000 dwt type bulk carrier M.V. New Direction (MES Hull No. 1844) at its Tamano Works on June 12, 2013 to New Excel Maritime S.A., Panama. This vessel is a handy-max type bulk carrier of 56,000 dwt with a large cargo hold capacity over 70,000 m3 and marks the 157th ship of its series.

M/V "New Expedition" Delivered

New Design-11th Cape-size Bulk Carrier of Dunkerque-max Type. Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES with President Mr. Yasuhiko Katoh) completed and delivered 174,600 dwt type bulk carrier, MV "New Expedtion" (MES HULL No. 1825) at its Chiba Works on February 1st, 2013 to Salute Maritime S.A., Panama. This ship is the 11th ship of the designed Cape-size Bulk Carrier of Dunkerque-max Type(*). It enables effective cargo handling, easy maintenance of cargo holds and structural safety by adopting a double-side skin to cargo holds construction.

Keppel Singmarine Wins $36m Contract

Keppel Singmarine, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M), has secured two contracts from Indonesian customers worth a total of about $36m. The first contract is for a Coal Transshipment Barge for repeat customer PT Indo Straits Tbk, through its subsidiary company PT Pelayaran Straits Perdana and the second is for the construction of three tugboats for a new customer, an international shipping company. Mr Hoe Eng Hock, Executive Director of Keppel Singmarine said, "We are pleased with these orders from our valued customers. Keppel Singmarine's contract with PT Pelayaran Straits Perdana is a repeat order of the Coal Transshipment Barge, Straits Venture, which was delivered earlier this year.

Cargo Ship Engineer Sentenced for Pollution Violation

United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that United States District Judge James C. Dever III, sentenced Vaja Sikharulidze, a citizen of Georgia, to one-year probation to include seven days of home detention, which reflected a sentence reduction based upon his substantial cooperation in the investigation. A Criminal Information was filed on April 23, 2010. sikharulidze pled guilty on May 3, 2010 to violating the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships (APPS), in violation of Title 33, United States Code, Sections 1901, et. seq. Sikharulidze, 59, was the Chief Engineer of the Motor Tanker Chem Faros, a 21,145 gross-ton ocean-going cargo ship.

Irika Shipping $4M Penalty for Concealing Pollution

Irika Shipping S.A., a ship management corporation registered in Panama and doing business in Greece, pleaded guilty on July 8, 2010 before Maryland U.S. District Court Judge Frederick J. Motz, to felony obstruction of justice charges and violation of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships related to concealing deliberate vessel pollution from the M/V Iorana, a Greek flagged cargo ship that made port calls in Baltimore, Tacoma, Wash., and New Orleans. According to the multi-district plea agreement arising out of charges brought in the District of Maryland, Western District of Washington, and Eastern District of Louisiana, Irika Shipping has agreed to pay a $4m total penalty…

Ship Management Firm Violated Pollution Law, Sentenced

Cooperative Success Maritime S.A., the operator of the M/T Chem Faros, a 21,145 gross-ton ocean-going cargo ship that regularly transported cargo between foreign ports and the United States, pleaded guilty and was sentenced today in federal court for violating the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships (APPS), and to making material false statements, the Justice Department announced. U.S. District Court Judge James C. Dever III for the Eastern District of North Carolina sentenced the company to pay a $850,000 penalty of which $150,000 will be paid to the congressionally-created National Fish and Wildlife Fund as a community service payment.

Seanergy Controlling Interest in Bulk Energy

Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ: SHIP) (NASDAQ: SHIPW) announced that it has closed on its previously announced agreement to purchase a 50% ownership interest in Bulk Energy Transport (Holdings) Limited (BET) from Constellation Bulk Energy Holdings, Inc. BET's other equity owner is Mineral Transport Holdings, Inc., which is an affiliate of members of the Restis family, one of the Company's major shareholders. The purchase price for the shares was $1. BET owns five drybulk carriers, four Capesizes and one Panamax. As result of this acquisition, the Company's controlled fleet increases to a total of 11 vessels with a carrying capacity of approximately 1,043,296 dwt and an average age of about 13 years.

NKK Delivers Cape-size Bulk Carrier

NKK Corp. has delivered the 172,559DWT bulk carrier, Cape Salvia, to its owner Pinos Maritime S.A. of Panama. The bulk carrier is the ship of designed with the Ax-bow developed by NKK, which is effective to reduce the sea margin. The Ax-Bow allows 20-30 percent reduction in ship’s sea margin compared with the conventional bow. The Ax-Bow is a sharp-edged bow shape above the waterline. This is effective in cutting through the waves, and decreases the sea margin, or engine output is maintained constant ship speed in rough sea. The Ax-Bow, therefore, is expected to be more effective to full hull form ships like bulk carriers and tankers.

Nam Trieu Begins Construction on 56,200 ton Vessel

According to VNS, Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, under the Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Group, began construction of a 56,200-tonne vessel, the first of three vessels for Japan’s Lavender Maritime S.A. The 623 ft. will be built under Japan’s NK Register in 22 months. Nam Trieu has also signed contracts to build four multi-purpose vessels worth $17m and vessels to transport automobiles capitalized at $2 billion. Source: VNS

Blue Star Maritime to Sell Catamaran

Greece's Blue Star Maritime SA said it signed an agreement to sell its catamaran Seajet 2 for $3.6M to the Sea Jet II Shipping Co The delivery of the vessel is expected to take place by the end of March. Part of the sale price will be paid when the vessel is delivered, while the credited amount of $3M will be paid in monthly instalments until September 2006. Builder NKK Corp. NKK Corp. delivered a 300,000-dwt., Panamanian-flagged, Malacca-max oil tanker to Aquamarine Ship-holding Maritime S.A., a Panamanian subsidiary of NYK Line in September 2002. Built at NKK's Tsu Works, the tanker, which is now in regular service for Nippon Oil Corp., is the first in the Malacca-max VLCC (very large crude carrier) class that NKK has developed in response to owners' requirements for maximum operational efficiency. Measuring 1,092 x 197 x 97 ft. (333 x 60 x 29.6 m) with a 68 ft. (20.8-m) draft, realizing the maximum permissible dimension to sail through the Strait of Malacca. The ship incorporates the latest energy-saving technologies and designs, including a sharp-edged Ax-Bow that greatly reduces wave resistance under rough sea conditions.

Flender Werft Awarded Superfast Ferries Contract

Flender Werft Aktiengesellschaft has signed a contract with the Greek shipowner Superfast Ferries Maritime S.A., which is a subsidiary of Attica Enterprises S.A. This $192.4 million contract calls for the construction of two technologically driven Superfast car/passenger ferries. The agreement also allows Superfast to exercise the option for the building of two more ships to be delivered at a later date. Known as the yard's hull numbers 682 and 683, the two ferries will be named Superfast XI and Superfast XII, are scheduled for delivery in January 2002 and May 2002, respectively. Measuring 656 ft. (200 m) with a breadth of 82 ft. (25 m) and a draught of 21 ft. (6.4 m), the vessels' four main engines will attain a service speed of more than 28.5 knots.
