Ingalls Shipbuilding to Hire More Than 2,000 Full-time Shipbuilders

HII said Thursday that the company’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division plans to hire more than 2,000 full-time shipbuilders as part of its future workforce plans."The new shipbuilders will join a skilled workforce that delivers critical capabilities to HII’s national security customers, including amphibious warships, destroyers and national security cutters. HII Expands Shipbuilder Academy Program

America’s largest military shipbuilding company Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) said that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday for its new Shipbuilder Academy site in Gulfport.Shipbuilder Academy was established in 2016 at Ingalls’ Maritime Training Academy with a mission to provide enrolled students with a strong foundation in the maritime industry and fill the current industry skills gap.Through a partnership with the Gulfport School District, Ingalls is expanding the program to a new site inside the repurposed Gaston Point Elementary School.“Ingalls has been a cornerstone of the Gulf Coast for more than 80 years, and we want to provide paths for hiring local talent,” said Brian Cuccias, president of Ingalls Shipbuilding.

Huntington Ingalls Industries hosted a graduation ceremony on Saturday for the company’s apprenticeship program at Ingalls Shipbuilding. Nine different crafts were represented among the 159 graduates of the 2019 class.Mississippi Speaker of the House, Philip Gunn, delivered the keynote address. “The prosperity of Mississippi begins with people like you,” he said. “The careers for which you are now prepared are the backbone of America. MTA Grows Portfolio with Magnificent Seven

Maritime Training Academy are adding to its portfolio of training courses with the addition of seven new Diplomas, confirming its position as a world leader in the provision of distance learning training within the maritime industry. The seven new training courses cover Maritime Firefighting, Marine Insurance Claims, Offshore Operations, Restoration of Historic Ships and Boats, the Role of the Superyacht Deckhand, Tanker Operations and Health and Safety in Ship Operations. All modules within a Diploma are written by one of the Maritime Training Academy’s carefully selected authors who are chosen for their extensive practical experience and expertise.

Carnival Opens High-tech Training Center

Carnival Corporation & plc today announced the official opening of its Arison Maritime Center, a world-class facility dedicated to providing safety training for its bridge and engineering officers responsible for the navigation and operation of the company’s fleet of cruise ships. Located in Almere, Netherlands just outside Amsterdam, the new 75-million-euro facility features some of industry’s most advanced simulators and training equipment to provide annual training to more than 6,500 bridge and engineering officers from Carnival’s 10 global cruise line brands.

Willard to Present at High Speed Boat Operations Forum

Willard Marine, a manufacturer of aluminum and fiberglass commercial and military boats, will present at the High Speed Boat Operations (HSBO) Forum in Lisbon, Portugal from May 4-6. The HSBO Forum, gathers professionals from around the world to discuss new development, research, technology, operational procedures and equipment for high speed boating. Maritime Training Academy Announces Diploma in Maritime Security

The Maritime Training Academy announced the launch of its new diploma in maritime security today. The Surrey, UK-based distance learning center said the diploma in maritime security will commence April 1st, 2015 and will consist of 11 modules including ISPS code, Passenger Vessel Security, Superyacht and Private Yacht Security. It will cover preventative measures and security procedures as well as event responses. All students are required to successfully complete and pass the module assignments. Diploma students are also required to sit a final examination in either April or October 2016. There is also the opportunity to attend two tutorial seminars, one mid-way through the course and one immediately before the examination.

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant visited Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding facility, meeting with shipyard officials on workforce development and training initiatives and touring Ingalls' Maritime Training Academy, the company announced. "Mississippi is home to the greatest shipbuilders in the world and builds the most technologically advanced warships on the planet," Bryant said. "Workforce development is critical to ensuring Mississippians are prepared for skilled manufacturing jobs like those at Ingalls.

Willard Marine Names Sales Team Additions

Willard Marine, Inc. (WMI), a manufacturer of composite and aluminum boats for 57 years, announced the appointments of Bob Beck Jr. and Renée St. Lawrence to its sales team. Beck joins the WMI Sales and Training team with more than 24 years of experience in the U.S. Coast Guard where he held several ranks and also acted as the Supervisor of Coast Guard Units managing personnel, budgets and maintenance contracts. Ingalls Shipbuilding Celebrates Apprentice Graduation

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) informs that it has held a graduation ceremony for graduates of Ingalls Shipbuilding's Apprentice School. The ceremony, held at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention Center, celebrated the accomplishments of 72 students representing various crafts at Ingalls. This is the first graduating class that had students who attended classes in the new Haley Reeves Barbour Maritime Training Academy. Through the academy, Ingalls is entering into a new phase of partnership with the Mississippi Community College System that offers a path into bachelor's degree programs. Huntington Ingalls Industries' (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division officially opened the company's brand-new, 70,000 square-foot Haley Reeves Barbour Maritime Training Academy today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The building, named for the former Mississippi governor, will serve as the training epicenter for Ingalls' apprentice program and will also help bolster the number of students. "Today symbolizes the state's commitment to workforce development and skills training for all of our working people so they can get better, higher-paying jobs," Barbour said.

Huntington Ingalls Industries held graduation ceremonies for Ingalls Shipbuilding's Apprentice School at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention Center, to celebrate the accomplishments of 60 students representing Ingalls' various crafts. Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann was the keynote speaker and acknowledged the graduates' commitments. "In addition to the commitments you've made to Mississippi, Ingalls and your families, Mississippi has made a commitment to you," he said. "The Haley Reeves Barbour Maritime Training Academy is opening soon.

NYK-Line Support New Philippine Maritime Training Academy

The new NYK-TDG campus opens its doors to 180 students at its Calamba location (about 50 km south of Manila). Two ceremonies were held — an opening ceremony for the sparkling new crew training facilities, maritime academy, classrooms, and lodgings, and then an entrance ceremony for the incoming class. NTMA is jointly run by NYK and business partner Transnational Diversified Group (TDG). Students receive three years of classroom study that includes use of the academy’s ship-handling simulator and engine plant, and follow that learning with one year of practical onboard training.

FMTA Now Online With MTAD

Florida Maritime Training Academy has announced that they are now part of the U.S. Coast Guard's National Maritime Center's (NMC) Maritime Training and Assessment Data Program (MTAD) that was rolled out earlier this month. "We actually had the opportunity to help the USCG with testing by signing up late last year and enter data through the Homeport. Our last STCW Basic Safety Training class of 2011 had their course completing information at the NMC before they got home after the last day of class,” said Roberto Valletta, Director of Training at Florida Maritime.

Florida has a new facility to develop and train Merchant Mariners. Florida Maritime Training Academy has submitted Basic Safety Training and Able Bodied Seaman courses to USCG National Maritime Center (NMC) for approval and expects to hold classes in the Fall of 2011. The Facility is strategically located next to Indian River Terminals in the Port of Fort Pierce. With access to the waterfront, the school will be able to conduct relevant, “hands-on” training to help establish and reinforce the skills to safety work aboard all types of vessels. Wärtsilä Signs Seafarer Training Contract with Odfjell

The Norwegian shipping company Odfjell ASA has extended its existing crew training contract with Wärtsilä by five years. Wärtsilä Land & Sea Academy (WLSA) will provide competence training for Odfjell's personnel at its training centre in Subic Bay, the Philippines, to ensure continuous improvement of their seafaring skills. WLSA, together with Odfjell, will build suitable training programmes for the crews working on Odfjell's vessels. For this training programme, WLSA is also investing in simulators for training in ship and cargo handling at the Subic Bay training centre.
