Videotel, Safebridge JV for Onboard ECDIS Certification

Videotel, a provider of e-Learning maritime training solutions and a company of KVH Industries, has joined forces with online maritime training business Safebridge GmbH, which specializes in ECDIS training, to provide shipping companies with the unique ability to certify their seafarers on ECDIS type-specific training while serving onboard. More than 30 ECDIS type-specific training courses will be available, which is the most comprehensive offering in the industry. Companies using the Videotel On Demand (VOD) system will have access to this leading-edge certification route. The agreement will enable a trainee onboard to select and log onto the VOD system and access the relevant Safebridge courses.

Videotel’s API Enables Integration with Crew Management Software

Videotel, a global provider of e-Learning maritime training solutions and a company of KVH Industries, Inc.,  has released the Videotel Partner API, an application programming interface that facilitates the exchange of data between Videotel and any of its clients’ crew management software systems. Videotel developed the API in collaboration with software and solutions developer Netvision, whose products include Compas, one of the leading crew management systems for the maritime industry. The Videotel Partner API is designed to be used with any crew management software; there is no additional fee for the service. The Videotel Partner API is designed to allow Videotel and crew management systems, including Compas, to communicate with each other and automatically update and share information.

Videotel Expands Maritime Training Programs

Videotel, an  international provider of e-Learning maritime training solutions and a company of KVH Industries, Inc., has launched its latest Videotel on Demand (VOD) release, which includes a total of 59 e-Learning courses – 37 new, 22 updated. Simultaneously, the new print edition of Videotel’s training catalog, STCW Maritime Training Catalog 2015-2017, has been released, detailing the complete Videotel selection of 950 new and updated titles available in a range of formats.

BCG Donates Simulation Software to Support US Naval Academy

Maritime training solutions provider Buffalo Computer Graphics Inc. (BCG) has donated its Enhanced Graphical User Interface (GUI2) simulation software to the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation in Annapolis, Md. for distribution to the academy’s seamanship and navigation department. BCG’s donation included four software licenses to support past donations from Northrup Grumman Corporation of the Navy’s Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) to train midshipmen on the charting system they will encounter once they graduate and move out to the fleet.

Videotel Secures NMA Approval

Videotel, the leading international provider of e-Learning maritime training solutions and a company of KVH Industries, Inc., has received the approval of the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) for its security training courses. Videotel’s “Maritime Security Awareness,” “Designated Security Duties,” and “Shipboard Security Officer” training courses have been approved in their entirety by the NMA for meeting the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) codes, and seafarers completing these courses will receive the necessary qualifications and certificates for shipboard duty. The NMA approval enhances Videotel’s reputation with Norwegian ship owners, ship managers, and the offshore sector, which are guided by the Authority on maritime issues.

Videotel Produces 500th Computer-based Training Course

Videotel, an international provider of e-Learning maritime training solutions and a company of KVH Industries, Inc., (KVHI), has launched its 500th computer-based training (CBT) e-Learning course. Videotel’s latest course, entitled “The Work of the Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel (ERRV),” covers the crew’s key objectives and emergency procedures when operating these vessels in global offshore oil and gas fields. The CBT course also details the day-to-day operational function of the ERRV.

Videotel Training Film Wins Media Award

Videotel, the international provider of e-Learning maritime training solutions and a company of KVH Industries, Inc., has received a Golden Reel Award from the Media Communications Association-International (MCA-I) in recognition of a training video that Videotel created for ExxonMobil Marine. Called "Cold Corrosion Insights," the video was produced for ExxonMobil Marine and explores the harmful effects of acid corrosion in ships' engines, which can reduce the lifespan of an engine by up to 90% in some cases.

Videotel Simplifies Management of Crew Records

Videotel Marine International, a maritime training solutions provider, has released an Application Programming Interface (API) service in order for its clients to be able to manage their crew training records housed within webFTA - Videotel’s powerful cloud-based training records management program - directly from their own Crew Management System (CMS) portal. Videotel’s API service has two main processes, Videotel said, namely, pulling crew data from the Videotel cloud so it can be displayed in the CMS portal and, secondly, pushing crew data from the CMS portal to the Videotel cloud which, in turn, triggers crew data to be sent to the vessels automatically.
