NAVIS TOS Connects at DP World Brisbane

Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, supported the grand opening of the DP World Brisbane container terminal as its Navis N4 terminal operating system (TOS) went 'Live'. Implementation of N4 at DP World Brisbane, the fourth member of the DP World Australia family of terminals to go live on Navis N4 over the last three years, completes the standardization and optimization of the TOS software across all DP World Australia sites. Cargotec Gets Major Order from DPWorld Brisbane

Cargotec receives an order to deliver 14 Kalmar automatic stackingcranes & 14 Kalmar one-over-one shuttle carriers to DP World Brisbane Pty. The equipment will be taken into use at the Port of Brisbane. DP World Brisbane will also be using Navis Sparcs N4 TOS in their Brisbane terminal expansion. Deliveries of the equipment are scheduled for 2013 and early 2014. The parties have agreed not to disclose the transaction value. Internet Can Help Shipping Companies Cut Costs, Say IT Firms

Shipping companies, criticized for being slow to modernize, are being targeted by information technology (IT) companies seeking a slice of a container management business estimated to be worth up to $14 billion. IT companies say they see the Internet as a way for shipping companies to cut the annual cost of handling containers. The problem mainly arises when companies ship cargo from point A to point B, only to find they have no return cargo. They either have to pay storage costs or ship them back empty. Greybox Logistics Services territory manager, Far East and North Pacific, Dana Lee, said that in 1994, 24.6 million TEU were handled empty in 1994 - about 19.5 percent of the total handled by ports that year.
