VT Group Awarded U.S. Navy Contract

VT Group, a premier middle-market technology integrator and C4ISR solutions provider, has been named by Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (NAVWAR) as one of six award winners for an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract. VT Group will compete for work in the areas of Afloat installation and integrated Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems aboard the Navy’s growing Fleet of surface ships and submarines. The contract vehicle has a ceiling value of $2.45 billion over a five-year base period and one five-year option period.VT Group has a 50-year history providing the U.S.

Vice Commandant Visits USCG Research Center

The U.S. Coast Guard Research and Development Center (RDC) in New London, Conn. hosted the service’s new Vice Commandant – Admiral Charles Ray on Wednesday. He was onboard the Service’s research center to receive an update on several projects, including CubeSATS, UUV, Small UAS, Sunken Oil, cUAS, Artificial Intelligence, and Blue Force Tracking. Additionally, he will celebrate the growing relationship between the RDC, commissioned in 1972, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.Admiral Ray, a 1981 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy, is the Coast Guard’s 31st Vice Commandant.

Rescue 21 Achieves 'SOLAS' Declaration from DHS

The U.S. Coast Guard is declaring 'Sea Area A1' service in certain areas off the coast of the United States based on the performance of the General Dynamics-built Rescue 21 system. The declaration is in accordance with provisions of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea and follows testing and analysis by the Coast Guard, validating that Rescue 21 provides more than 90 percent coverage for Very High Frequency (VHF) radio distress communications and digital selective calling. Sea Area A1 comprises more than 215,000 square nautical miles including the nation's eastern, western and Gulf coastlines (excluding Alaska) and extends 20 nautical miles out to sea.

Effective October 1, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) will implement changes to its Technology & Innovation Headquarters and Global Business Planning & Operations Headquarters. Topping the list of changes is the establishment of a new "Global Business Innovation Department" integrating the functions of the two headquarters. Coast Guard Restores Great Lakes Communications

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., said it regained normal communications capabilities in the northern Great Lakes region Tuesday, following outages throughout the region as a result of storms. Restored communication capabilities include Rescue 21 coverage throughout northern Lake Michigan, northern Lake Huron and all of Lake Superior. Rescue 21 is the Coast Guard’s advanced command, control and direction-finding communications system. It was created to better locate mariners in distress and to save lives and property at sea. Rescue 21 harnesses state-of-the-market technology, and enables the Coast Guard to execute its search and rescue missions with greater agility and efficiency.

Contract Awarded for Rescue 21 in the Western Rivers

The Coast Guard plans to upgrade existing equipment at 49 remote fixed facilities and add three new locations to enhance search and rescue communications on the Western Rivers. U.S. Coast Guard illustration.

As part of the ongoing National Distress and Response System (NDRS) Modernization Project (Rescue 21), the U.S. Coast Guard competitively awarded a contract August 5, 2013, to Eyak Technology LLC for design, delivery, installation and support of Rescue 21 capabilities in the Western Rivers. Rescue 21, the Coast Guard’s advanced command, control and communications system, was created to better locate mariners in distress and save lives and property at sea and on navigable waterways.
