Report: Pirate Attack on Oil Tanker Thwarted Off Ghana

An attempted pirate attack on the Marshal Islands-flagged tanker Pike was reportedly thwarted on Friday morning offshore Ghana.According to Praesidium, a maritime security intelligence firm, the tanker, which had left Lagos the day before, was approached on Friday around 0350 UTC by a small craft with six to eight persons aboard.“Perpetrators attempted to board the vessel, but evasive maneuvers performed by the Master hampered their attempt. Cruise Ship Collides with Tanker off Gallipoli

A Celestyal Cruises ship suffered structural damage to its bow and was forced to dock at Turkey’s port of Gallipoli after it collided with the Marshal Islands-flagged product tanker STI Pimlico on Saturday June 27th 2015 and at around 1:28 am local time. Celestyal Cruises informed that all 852 passengers and the 382 members of crew are well and so are the crew members of the tanker. Except that three incidents have been reported, involving minor injuries for two members of crew and one passenger. They received first aid  and their health and well-being are in absolutely no danger.The cruise ship has only suffered some structural damages and awaits inspection from its class surveyor.

Maersk Vessel to be Released after Company Pays Debt: Iran

The Iranian Embassy in Denmark has reportedly said that a cargo ship recently impounded the Persian Gulf by Iranian Navy forces will be released if the ship’s operator company settles its overdue debts to an Iranian plaintiff. “Iranian authorities reiterate that there has been absolutely no political or security intentions or considerations behind the incident,” read a statement by the Iranian Embassy on Thursday, AFP reported. "The seizure of the ship was solely an enforcement of a judicial court ruling resulting from a commercial dispute between two private parties," it added. "Naturally the ship will be released after settlements of debts by Maersk Line and will be allowed to sail to its final destination," stated the Embassy of Iran in Copenhagen on its website.

Hijacked Tanker Arrives off Somalia

The Marshal Islands flagged, crude oil tanker Samho Dream, previously reported hijacked approximately 600 nautical miles off the Somali coast in the early hours of 4 April has now arrived off the coast of Somalia. The Samho Dream, South Korean owned and operated, with a deadweight of 319360, has a crew of 24 made up of 5 Koreans and 19 Fillipino and all are believed to be safe. EU NAVFOR continues to monitor the situation.

Ships Evade Pirate Attacks in Indian Ocean

On the early morning of 10 November 2009 some 1000 nautical miles east from Mogadishu, Somalia, pirates attacked MV Nele Maersk, a Danish flagged Container ship. The attack took place not far from the area crude oil tanker BW Lion was attacked. Pirates fired automatic weapons on MV Nele Maersk but she could outrun the pirates with a high speed. No casualties were reported. A second attack on Nov. 10 was in the southern part of the Somali Basin 530 nautical mile east of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and 420 nautical miles west of Victoria, Seychelles. MV Felicitas Richmers, a Marshal Islands flagged Container Ship was attacked by two small skiffs. Automatic weapons were fired on the ship.

Gerald R. Ford, Former President and Sailor, Dies

Lt. Cmdr. Gerald Ford in uniform 1945, who later became the 38th President of the United States (1974-1977). Ford received his commission as an Ensign in the U.S Naval Reserve on April 13, 1942 and later participated in many actions in the Pacific aboard the fast aircraft carrier USS Monterey (CVL 26). He was eventually released from active duty under honorable conditions in Feb. 1946. President Ford, 93, passed away on Dec. 26, 2006 at his home in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Former President Gerald R.
