US Calls on Iran to Release Tanker Seized in Gulf of Oman

Iran seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman in international waters on Thursday, the U.S. Navy said, the latest in a series of seizures or attacks on commercial vessels in sensitive Gulf waters since 2019.Iran's army said it had seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman after it collided with an Iranian boat, injuring several crewmen, Iranian state media reported."Two members of the boat's crew are missing and several were injured due to the collision of the ship with the boat," an army statement said.The U.S.

Furuno Earns LR AIP for HermAce

Marshall Islands Extends Electronic Logbook Approval

The Maritime Administrator of the Marshall Islands has extended its approval of the K-Fleet Logbook system, enabling more than 4,000 flag state registered vessels to introduce digital reporting for oil record and garbage record logbooks. The approval states that K-Fleet Logbook may now be used to fulfill the requirements of the Marshall Islands Maritime Regulations (Marine Notice No. 7-041-5) to maintain a deck and navigation log, an engine room log, an oil record book, cargo record book, a garbage record book and a radio log.

Private maritime training school Maritime Professional Training (MPT) announced it recently graduated Captain Roberto Beretta who is the recipient of the first Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Master (Yachts) - Unlimited license. Captain Beretta is the first in the world to achieve this certification, which he attained through MPT’s first of its kind, expedient superyacht-specific assessment for captains wishing to gain their unlimited license from the RMI Maritime Administrator.

Eastern Launches Second Vessel for Bravante

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. announced the christening and launching of the M/V Bravante VI for Boldini S.A., Bravante Group of Brazil. This is the second vessel in a series of five. The event was held on August 5, 2013 at Eastern’s Nelson Street Facility with hundreds of Eastern’s Employees and Guests. Attending from Bravante were Renato and Regina Nascimento, Nuno Neves and Rubia Amaral, William Grutter, Cristiana Marsillac and Luis Harduim along with several members that traveled from Brazil witnessing the launch of the second of five Platform Supply Vessels under contract with Eastern.

Six of the former Renaissance cruiseships now owned by Cruiseinvest LLC, a Marshall Islands-incorporated company, have been reflagged to the Marshall Islands, Cruiseinvest, and International Registries Inc, the managers of the Marshall Islands maritime and corporate registers, said in a joint announcement today (Wednesday 5 December 2001). "We required a register and flag administration known for its integrity to match the quality of our superb new cruiseships and to give us business flexibility, and the Marshall Islands fulfilled these needs," said Dominique Prunier, chief executive of Cruiseinvest Management S.A., a Marshall Islands company which manages the Cruiseinvest fleet and which has an office in Paris to oversee the management of the fleet.

Marshall Islands Observe ISM Code Before Deadline

The Marshall Islands can confirm that all vessels on its ships register affected by Phase II of the International Safety Management (ISM) code were in full compliance ahead of the July 1 deadline. Those vessels registered with the Marshall Islands that do not comply with ISM are exempt by virtue of the Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) compliance definitions, are in lay-up or have been foreign bareboat charter registered in another flag-state jurisdiction. The 2001 annual report of the Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control (Paris MOU) has put the safety records of flag states back in the spotlight once again when it showed that safety management deficiencies on vessels have risen by 150% in three years.
