Four Damen Tractor Tugs for Svitzer

Global towage operator Svitzer has signed a contract with the Damen Shipyards Group for four ATD 2412 tugs as part of Svitzer’s ongoing fleet renewal program. All four tugs are being built at Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam. Demonstrating the advantages to be gained from building vessels for stock, Damen is handing over the first two vessels just one month after contract signing. Svitzer has the first two tugs signed up for port towage operations at its Dominican Republic joint venture with Remolcadores Dominicanos.

Svitzer Orders Pair of Damen Tugboats

Svitzerhas ordered two more Damen ASD 3212 tugs with 80 tons bollard pull performance for its escort and towing operations on the Thames and Felixstowe. They are being built at Damen’s ong Cam Shipyard in Vietnam and will be delivered to Svitzer UK in October 2015. The 32m ASD tugs, designed for push-pull, escorting, towing and fire-fighting operations, feature a 12.2m beam and speed of 14 knots. For propulsion, they are equipped with two Caterpillar 3516C HD TA/D engines with a total power of 5,050 bkW at 1,800 rpm.

Damen, MTU & SVITZER to Launch World’s 1st RSD CNG Tug

Three leading companies have teamed up to bring the first ever Reverse Stern Drive (RSD) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) tug to the market. Damen Shipyards of the Netherlands, German engine manufacturer MTU Friedrichshafen, a subsidiary of Rolls-Royce Power Systems, and Denmark’s SVITZER have embarked on the pioneering project with the official launch of the new eco-friendly tug planned for 2016. The new RSD CNG tug combines high power with lower fuel costs and a substantial reduction in emissions. Martijn Smit, Damen Sales Manager Europe, says: “Damen is proud to be building the prototype. With the MTU 4000 engine, this vessel is excellent for ship handling, with very quick acceleration.

Damen Delivers Twin Axe to Northern Offshore Services

Northern Offshore Services has taken delivery of its first Damen Twin Axe, just weeks after the order was placed in August. The 26-meter Fast Crew Supplier is already being deployed at an offshore wind farm in the North Sea. Crewboat operator Northern Offshore Services has offices in Sweden and Denmark and a fleet of nearly 20 vessels. The company specializes in the safe and reliable transport of personnel and equipment to the offshore (wind) industry and is a new customer for Damen. The new vessel is sailing under the Danish flag.

Damen Shipyards Acquire Swedish Ship Repair Yard

Dutch shipbuilding and repair company Damen Shipyards Group has taken over the shares of Swedish shiprepair and maintenance yard Oskarshamnsvarvetin Oskarshamn. The acquisition was prepared in close cooperation with the owners and includes the full continuation of the repair yard, both as to current operations and personnel. Oskarshamnsvarvet is a shiprepair yard on the south-east coast of Sweden. It is specialized in the maintenance and repair of vessels up to 80 m and has built, repaired and maintained a substantial part of the Swedish coastal fleet since 1863. Apart from a floating dock, the company operates a slipway covered by a portal crane of 100 tons.
