CWind Orders Hybrid Crew Transfer Vessel

Isle of Wight shipbuilder Wight Shipyard Co (WSC) has been contracted by CWind to build the world’s first hybrid surface effect crew transfer vessel, to  service the Borssele 1 and 2 offshore windfarms located 23 kilometers off the Dutch coast.CWind’s long-term charter contract agreement with Ørsted, which operates the Borssele 1 and 2 offshore windfarms, will start in mid-2020. The agreement will cover an initial three-year firm charter with options available for a further two years.WSC said it will manage the build project from its development stage right through to delivery. The vessel will be able to handle 2m significant wave height during technician transfer in heavy seas.

European Envoy Completes Refit at A&P Facility

A&P Birkenhead has reported that the recent dry docking and repair of the European Envoy has been successfully completed. The vessel, which is owned by P&O European Ferries (Irish Sea), entered the new A&P Group facility on Saturday 3rd August 2002. The dry docking work included approximately 4.0 tonnes of damaged shell plating, and passenger certificate renewal. The work was completed on Friday 9th August following which the 4,267dwt passenger vessel departed the dry dock and returned to service in the Irish Sea. A&P Birkenhead Welcomes First Vessel

A&P Birkenhead has drydocked its first vessel since A&P Group acquired the facility in 2001. The vessel involved is a 1,537dwt general cargo vessel Kay L, which is owned by German shipping company Reederei M. Lauterjung KG, Emden. The vessel was trading in the Irish Sea area when it suffered rudder problems and had to enter dry dock for repairs. The vessel will undergo some additional general repairs whilst in dry dock. General Manager at A&P Birkenhead, Martyn Drye commented: "Our workforce has moved swiftly to ensure that the dry dock was available immediately ensuring that we maintained an efficient service to the customer. Our engineers are working with the owners Superintendent to ensure the vessel has a speedy return to active service.”

A&P Birkenhead Gets Triple Ferry Deal

A&P Group's newly reopened dry dock facility, A&P Birkenhead, has recently completed the dry docking and repairs of Mersey Ferries' 464grt passenger ferry Woodchurch. The Woodchurch is the first of three vessels booked into the yard by Mersey Ferries Ltd, the Passenger Transport Authority and Executive for Merseyside. The three ship contract was won in open competition against other UK ship repairers. The two other ferries, the 303grt Royal Daffodil and her sistership Royal Iris will be dry docked during January and March 2003 respectively. The work content for all three vessels includes general maintenance, minor steel repairs and cleaning and painting the ships hull.
