Containershipping: Restoring Balance
The repositioning of empty containers costs the liner industry an estimated $15-20billion every year according to Boston Consulting Group (BCG), as containers sit idle at a depot or are repositioned to a different loading point while empty. This is time spent not earning revenue, whil incurring additional costs, and is estimated by BCG to account for 5-8% of total operating costs for an average container liner. Electronic Inclinometer for Tugboat Safety
Danish marine safety equipment manufacturer, Daniamant, has launched a tugboat version of its renowned Electronic Inclinometer, an advanced heel and pitch measuring device. The DanEI-300T fulfils the most recent Bureau Veritas Groupâs regulations for escort tugboats and is approved by German BSH to the IMO (International Maritime Organization) performance standard MSC.363(92):2013. Bureau Veritasâ classification rules in the January 2019 edition stipulate that escort tugboats must be equipped with a calibrated heeling angle measurement system, otherwise referred to as an inclinometer.
BMT and Charta Software Form Partnership
BMT ARGOSS (BMT) and Charta Software have announced a partnership to develop a multifunctional software package named METRIS, (Modelsysteem voor Evaluatie Tijpoortregeling en RIsicoâS bodemberoering), meaning âModel system to evaluate tidal admission policy and risk of seabed touchdownâ, for the Dutch Directorate-General. The partnership aims to meet clientele needs by combining BMTâs experience in heading analysis, vessel response behavior, weather forecasting and shallow water metocean conditions, with Chartaâs ability to deliver high quality software.
