Marcelo Penna, Safeway Design Trimaran SOV for Offshore Wind Sector

Umoe Mandal Unveils New Crew Transfer Vessel

The new WAVECRAFT Voyager 38 X is designed to reduce transit time, improve crew and passenger comfort, safety and efficiency, expand operational envelop and reduce logistical cost, Umoe Mandal said. Voyager 38X incorporates air-cushion catamaran and Surface-Effect-Ship (SES) technologies with a motion control system that compensates for vertical wave motion to offer comfortable transit and safe access to other vessels and installations offshore. The vessel may be outfitted with a gangway and a SeaSpyder personnel transfer system.

New Passenger Ferry for Seychelles’ Inter Island Express

A new 30-meter aluminum passenger ferry Isle of la Digue built by Richardson Devine Marine is the latest vessel designed by Incat Crowther for the Seychelles operator Inter Island Express. The catamaran newbuild, which required a very shallow draft to afford access to the operator’s confined harbor berth, is the first to feature Incat Crowther’s new generation propeller tunnel to reduce propeller draft and offer a flat transom which can integrate with standard fixed or active interceptor systems, the designer said.

New Ferry Marks a Milestone for Incat Crowther

The latest passenger ferry constructed by Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding for Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority signals a milestone delivery for marine design firm Incat Crowther. The 27-meter catamaran Champion marks the 500th vessel designed by Incat Crowther. “To have successfully designed 500 large commercial vessels is no accident,” said Incat Crowther CEO, Brett Crowther. Crowther added, “It’s apt that our 500th vessel is a Gladding-Hearn build. Incat Crowther Designs another Ferry for Seastreak

In response to significant growth in passenger volume, New York ferry operator Seastreak has contracted Incat Crowther to design a 45-meter catamaran passenger vessel for its fleet, thus increasing its number of Incat Crowther designed vessels to eight. Incat Crowther has worked with Seastreak to provide an operational advantage in a competitive market. The new vessel will continue this approach and be based on the fleet’s largest ferries, Seastreak Wall Street, Seastreak Manhattan, Seastreak Highlands and Seastreak New York. Passenger capacity is increased to 600.

Rescue Ship Idar Ulstein Named in Norway

The search and rescue boat Idar Ulstein was named in Ulsteinvik today, becoming the latest newbuild to join the fleet of the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue. RS Idar Ulstein is also the first vessel in the new Ulstein class, named after ULSTEIN’s long-time CEO. The new vessel Idar Ulstein was named by lady sponsor Gunvor Ulstein in a ceremony in Ulsteinvik. Fincantieri, Pininfarina Introduced “Ottantacinque”

At the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show held this morning Fincantieri, leading western shipbuilding group, and Pininfarina, standard-bearer of the Italian design for 85 years, introduced the “Ottantacinque” concept of a latest-generation luxury mega yacht. “Ottantacinque” will be a cutting-edge mega yacht, 85 meters long, 2,460 gross tons, with 5 decks, each of which featuring technological solutions and exclusive interior fittings. with the side bulwark, which offer, together with an elevated sun bed, uninterrupted views on the sea. With the adjustable bottom, the water depth can be varied and even reduced to zero to create a large open platform spanning over 160 square meters.

Silver Ships Delivers Survey Vessel to USACE

Silver Ships delivered a 48-ft. Endeavor Survey boat to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District. The vessel will be tasked with surveying the waters in both the Gulf of Mexico and rivers of the New Orleans District. The all-welded aluminum vessel is designed and engineered by Naval Architect Lou Codega, PE of Smithfield, VA and features a hull form designed to handle the short choppy seas of the Gulf Coast regions. The vessel is powered by twin Caterpillar C18 diesel engines at 803 hp each coupled to Twin Disc v-drive gears.

Incat Crowther Designs New Ferries for Singapore

A new class of 33-meter catamaran passenger ferries has been designed by Incat Crowther for Majestic Ferries in Singapore, to operate between Singapore and Batam. With four of the vessels already under construction at PT Cahaya Samudra Shipyard in Indonesia, the design targets increased speed, capacity and fuel savings in return on the operator’s investment in the new fleet, the designer noted. Powering each vessel will be a pair of MAN D2862 LE463 main engines driving fixed pitch propellers.

Edda & its Five Star Offshore Accommodations

 Over eight months during 2012 – 2013, we operated the Edda Fides in the Bass Strait between south east Australia and Tasmania on the KTT (Kipper Tuna Turrum) project, the largest domestic  gas  development on the eastern seaboard of Australia at the time. Viking Neptun Delivered for Technip

Viking Neptun was delivered from Kleven Verft to Eidesvik on February 17, and the naming ceremony was held in Stavanger on February 28. The vessel’s Godmother, Patricia Pilenko, broke the champagne bottle on Viking Neptun, which will now start operating on charter for Technip in the North Sea. The offshore construction vessel is the largest in Eidesvik’s fleet, and the largest ever built by Kleven Verft. Designed by Salt Ship Design, the vessel is 145 m long and 31 m wide and with accommodation for 150 persons.

KOTUG’s Hybrid Rotortug Arrives in Rotterdam

RT Evolution, KOTUG’s new hybrid Rotortug, has arrived in the Port of Rotterdam on Saturday, Oct. 18. In the coming weeks, Damen Shipyards Group will complete the final outfitting and testing of this next generation Robert Allan design: the ART 80-32 Hybrid. According to the builder, the 32.9m ART 80-32 Hybrid (13.2m beam) has a max bollard pull of 84t and max speed of 13.7kts. Its total power is 5,295BKW.

Sea Trial Performance Analysis Redefined

KND Naval Design of Cape Town, South Africa successfully completed its first in class 10M Advanced Life Support Ambulance and Rescue vessel for Africa. This vessel was designed and built entirely in Cape Town. This project used HydroComp propulsion software to analyze and examine sea trial performance. Naval architect Kobus Potgieter captured a USA styled 1960’s retro ambulance look-and-feel for the boat. He also used “Batmobile” oversized fenders and flowing lines which can be seen in the vessel’s coach and shape of the hull.

Viking Welding & Response Marine, Inc. have recently completed a 36’ research vessel, which is being used in United States Coast Guard Academy coursework this fall. Christened the Michael J. Greeley Spirit of ’61, the vessel was largely funded by gifts from the Academy class of 1961 and named after a class member who passed away while a cadet at the Academy. The Michael J. TMEIC Receives Order from Georgia Ports Authority

TMEIC has received an order to supply MAXSPEED electrical drive systems upgrade for three Ship-to-Shore Crane at Georgia Ports Authority. The project will be to replace the original DC drives with TMEIC’s TMdrive 10e2 drives and controls. TMEIC will be supplying new AC hoist motors with higher HP that will enable GPA to increase container moves by two containers per hour. “The Georgia Ports Authority continually strives to provide our customers with the most efficient container handling equipment available,” said Chris Novack, GPA Director of Engineering and Facilities Maintenance.
