Bureau Veritas Launches Wind Farm Service Ships Guidance

International classification society Bureau Veritas has published guidance for designers and builders of Wind Farm Service Ships. Maxime Pachot, offshore service vessel manager at Bureau Veritas, says, “Although some of the existing Offshore Service Vessel fleet can perform the tasks necessary for developing and maintaining offshore wind farms, we see an increasing need for specialist craft. These will include specialised vessels for servicing offshore wind farms. These will have particular characteristics and to be efficient they will have to be new designs.

Bureau Veritas Guidance, Floating Offshore Wind Turbines

International classification society Bureau Veritas has issued guidelines for the Classification and Certification of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines. The guidelines specify the environmental conditions under which floating offshore wind turbines may serve, the principles of structural design, load cases for the platform and mooring system, stability and the structural division and design criteria for the top structure. The Guidance Note NI 572 covers floating platforms supporting single- or multiple-turbines with horizontal or vertical axes. Maxime Pachot, Offshore Wind Turbine Manager, Bureau Veritas, said, "There is growing demand for offshore wind turbines which can be safely installed in very deep water locations.

BV Opens Yacht Technical Office

International classification society Bureau Veritas has opened a Yacht Technical Office in . It provides a center of expertise for all issues relating to the construction, classification and statutory certification of mega yachts. Maxime Pachot, manager of the Yacht Technical Office, says, "The technical issues which face yacht designers, builders and owners are getting more and more specialized. Mega yachts are often at the cutting edge of design, materials use and equipment. Yachts are also subject to a complex regulatory regime which varies considerably with the size of the vessel and its intended use. There is no such thing as a one size fits all rule book for yachts…
