U.S.-based marine services company TDI-Brooks announced it was awarded geophysical, geotechnical and benthic sampling survey campaigns to study seabed conditions within the project lease area and potential export cable corridors for offshore wind farms off the U.S. East Coast. TDI-Brooks said it expects to begin the program in April and will continue through summer 2023 with two to three vessels in operations. The data collected will help determine safe and responsible project design and engineering along with identifying potential geohazards and benthic habitats.

U.S. based marine services firm TDI-Brooks announced it has installed the Starlink Maritime platform on two of its four research vessels, with plans to equip the remaining vessels at a later date.The two vessels, Brooks McCall and Miss Emma McCall, are currently working on the U.S. East Coast performing G&G surveys for offshore wind programs. After 27 years’ service as Chief Executive Officer of Shipowners Claims Bureau, Inc. (SCB), the Managers of the American P&I Club, Joe Hughes will stand down from that role on August 1, 2022. Dorothea Ioannou, currently Deputy Chief Operating Officer of SCB, will succeed Hughes as CEO from that date, making history as the first woman to ascend to the top executive position of an International Group P&I club in the 167 year history of the marine mutuals.At the same time, Vince Solarino will step down as Chief Operating Officer of SCB, Inc.

U.S.-based marine data acquisition services company TDI-Brooks said it recently mapped the Liberty Ship George Vancouver off Freeport, Texas while out on a seabed survey project with the R/V Brooks McCall. The multiple multi-phase geophysical and geotechnical site surveys program consisted of pipeline routing and subsea structures to facilitate route and project design for offshore developers.Equipment used to map the ship was a Teledyne Reson SeaBat T-20 multibeam sonar with integrated Applanix POSMV for Motion.

TDI-Brooks’ newest vessel R/V Miss Emma McCall has recently completed its first projects for the U.S.-based marine data acquisition services company on behalf of Total and Cairn Energy offshore Mexico. TDI-Brooks has the vessel on a long-term bare-boat charter from Cameron Offshore Boats.The 2003-built Miss Emma is a multi-use oceanographic research vessel outfitted for a wide variety of oceanographic research duties for operations in the Northern/Southern Gulf of Mexico (GOM), U.S. East Coast and elsewhere in the Americas.

Moda Midstream LLC is considering building a second berth at its Ingleside, Texas, crude export terminal to accommodate booming shale oil production on the Gulf Coast, the company's chief executive said on Thursday.The expansion to the terminal that loads oil tankers will come as three major pipelines open in the second half of 2019, CEO Bo McCall said in an interview. Liquids terminaling and logistics provider Moda Midstream announced it has successfully commissioned upgrades to Berth 2A at the Moda Ingleside Energy Center (MIEC) in Ingleside, Texas, to enable loading of very large crude carriers (VLCCs).Moda developed these upgrades to provide existing and potential customers the ability to safely and cost-effectively load VLCCs at rates of up to 80,000 barrels per hour.“Today we are loading our fourth VLCC at MIEC since late December,” said Moda President and CEO Bo McCall. “With today’s commissioning of our upgrades to Berth 2A, we now have the U.S. Gulf Coast’s most efficient crude export loading rates.

Louisiana shipbuilder Gulf Craft has delivered the third vessel in a series of new class monohull fast support vessels (FSV) for SEACOR Marine.According to designer Incat Crowther, the vessel Libby L. McCall advances the traditional offshore support vessel model and offers a more cost efficient, comfortable, flexible, and safe option to helicopter transportation.The vessel features redundancy to mitigate against down time or loss of functionality due to mechanical complications.

U.S. offshore vessel owner Seacor Marine  has acquired of three fast support vessels (FSVs) in exchange for the private placement of 603,872 shares of its common stock to domestic U.S. holders affiliated with the McCall family of Louisiana.The provider of global marine and support transportation services to offshore oil and natural gas and windfarm facilities worldwide has operated the acquired vessels for the past ten years under a revenue sharing pooling agreement along with four of its owned FSVs of similar specification.As part of the transaction, this pooling agreement was terminated. This will eliminate a negative adjustment in recent years to Seacor Marine’s revenue and Direct Vessel Profit (DVP) that resulted from allocations of revenue among the pool participants.

Incat Crowther announced the delivery of Najla McCall, the second vessel in SEACOR Marine’s Express Plus class of Fast Support Vessels (FSV). Sistership to the Alya McCall launched in November last year, Najla McCall has seating capacity for 100 personnel and achieved an operational speed in excess of 38 knots during recent trials. This performance is remarkable for a large vessel of this type and is enabled by a quintet of Cummins QSK 60, EPA Tier 3 compliant diesel engines, each producing 2,680 bhp, the designer said. The engines are coupled to Twin Disc MGX 61500 SC reverse reduction gearboxes driving Hamilton HT-810 water jets through a shafting system by Driveline Service of Portland.

The delivery of Alya McCall is significant in that it is the first vessel in a fleet of new class monohull Fast Support Vessels (FSV) for SEACOR Marine. Alya McCall is the first vessel in the SEACOR Express Plus class and features striking lines not ordinarily found in traditional monohull FSV designs. Gulf Craft in Franklin, La. built the 206 x 43 x 9.25 ft. vessel. Alya McCall features seating capacity for 100 personnel and has a top speed of 38 knots. The performance is enabled by five Cummins QSK 60, EPA Tier 3 compliant diesel engines, each producing 2680 bhp.

A heritage committee of the UNESCO cultural agency stopped short of placing Australia's Great Barrier Reef on an "in danger" list, but the ruling on Friday raised long-term concerns about its future. The long-awaited ruling by UNESCO's World Heritage Committee welcomed Australian efforts to maintain the environmentally sensitive region but noted its outlook was "poor" and called on the government to stick rigidly to commitments to protect it. "Climate change, poor water quality and impacts from coastal development are major threats to the property's health...," the statement said after delegates held discussions in the German city in Bonn. Busy shipping lanes pass through the area and commercial ships are required to hire a special "reef pilot" to navigate through it.

Seacor Marine is building ever larger and more powerful mono-hull crew/supply boats. The first of these to be delivered is the 202x34-foot Alex F. McCall with some very impressive statistics. With a length between perpendiculars of 186 feet and a 13-foot molded depth the new vessel has a light ship displacement of 277 long tons (281.45 mt). Interior capacities include 92,418 US gallons of fuel, (349.8 cubic meters), 10,848 US gallons of drill /fresh water (41.1 cu. met.) and 3,200 US gal. of potable water (12.1 cu. mt.).

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus hosted a ship-naming ceremony to announce that SSN 793, a Virginia-class attack submarine, will bear the name USS Oregon. During a ceremony held at the Battleship Oregon Memorial in Tom McCall Waterfront Park, Mabus announced the submarine will be named to honor the long-standing history its namesake state has had with the Navy. Mabus also recognized USS Portland (LPD 27) which he named last year in honor of Oregon’s largest city. “Sailors and Marines, like the citizens of Oregon throughout history, are pioneers. They are explorers who are looking willingly toward the unknown, wanting to know what is out over the horizon,” said Mabus. Mabus told the crowd SSN 793 will be the third naval ship to bear the name Oregon.

After working alongside craftsmen from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Ship Repair Facility Yokosuka to complete routine maintenance to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, Sailors will now put the ship through a series of tests before going underway. SEACOR Marine has selected marine diesel engines from the Tognum brand MTU for its latest pair of fast supply vessels. The two vessels, SEACOR Lynx and SEACOR Leopard, will have an overall length of 190 feet and the capacity to carry up to 150 passengers. The vessels will also have the capacity to carry 150 tons of deck cargo and the ability to achieve speeds of 46 knots.
