Shipping Container Suppliers Abandon $987 Million Deal After US Probe

Global shipping container suppliers China International Marine Containers and Maersk Container Industry in a joint statement on Thursday said they have abandoned a merger plan, citing significant regulatory challenges.China International Marine Containers (CIMC) in September had agreed to buy the Danish shipping company AP Moeller - Maersk's refrigerated containers maker for $987.3 million.The U.S.

MCI Signs EchoPilot Deal

Marine Components International (MCI) in the UK has been chosen by Denmark’s Daniamant to distribute its British-designed EchoPilot forward-looking 3D sonar systems (FLS 3D).Dorset-headquartered maritime company supplies a wide range of high-end marine products to leading yacht builders and shipyards worldwide. ZIM Expands Refrigerated Container Fleet

Not all towing vessel companies are choosing Third Party Organizations (TPOs) for their Subchapter M compliance option. One size does not fit all.Under Subchapter M, towing vessel companies may opt to use TPOs to conduct their audits and surveys instead of inspections by the Coast Guard. Maritime Cook Islands Highlights “Positive Progress” to Tokyo MOU White List

The Cook Islands flag, operated by ship registry Maritime Cook Islands (MCI), has shown positive flag state performance, as reported in the latest report on Port State Control in the Asia Pacific Region by Tokyo MOU. The data and figures were published in the new report on Port State Control in the Asia Pacific by Tokyo MOU. The Tokyo MOU is “one of the most active regional port State control (PSC) organisations in the world” and consists of 20 member authorities in the Asia-Pacific region. In the recently published report, Cook Islands reported a decrease in the number of inspections with deficiencies; from 27 in 2016 to 20 in 2017. Number of deficiencies has also seen a significant decrease from 181 in 2016 to 116 in 2017.

Maritime Cook Islands Gears Up for Stronger 2018

Maritime Cook Islands (MCI), an international ship registry, is planning for another year of expansion after a solid performance in 2017. Despite the continuing challenging times in shipping, MCI says 2017 saw it make significant progress on several fronts. For 2017, MCI registered 130 new vessels. Our fleet grew by 3.6%; from 557 vessels at the end of 2016 to 577 (as of 13 December 2017). With 451,792 gross tonnage (GT) added for 2017, this brings the total GT for 2017 to 1,840,614 (as of 16 December 2017). This represents an increase of 3.76% from 2016’s total GT. In February 2017, MCI significantly enhanced its technical department and relocated it to Italy , in the process making a  series of senior appointments.

Subchapter M: Top 5 Moves to Make Now

In 2004 Congress reclassified towing vessels as vessels subject to inspection. Thus began a lengthy process of regulation drafting by the U.S. Coast Guard, with a great deal of input from the towing industry. In 2011, the Notice of Proposed Rule Making was published giving the public its first look at what has become known as Subchapter M. Over 3,000 comments were received by the Coast Guard on the Proposed Rule. After five years of responding to those comments and revamping Subchapter M, on June 20, 2016 the Final Rule was published.

Hapag-Lloyd Adds Low Carbon Refrigerant Containers from Maersk

To maintain and expand its container fleet, Hapag-Lloyd, a global container line, has purchased 3,700 Star Cool Integrated containers as part of their recent reefer investments from Maersk Container Industry (MCI). Of these, 1,000 Star Cool units will be chilled by the environmentally friendly R513A refrigerant system with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than 56 percent of the commonly used R134A refrigerant. Egina FPSO Leaves SHI's Geoje Shipyard

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) successfully completed Geoje-shipyard portion of the world's largest sized Egina FPSO. The gigantic floater left for Nigeria on 31th October 2017. SHI has now fulfilled successful delivery or sail-away of three massive offshore projects as scheduled. Earlier this year Ichthys CPF, world's largest floating gas processing facility, was delivered in April. Prelude FLNG, world's largest FLNG, had left Goeje in June. SHI won the order to build Egina FPSO in 2013. The FPSO is to be installed in Egina offshore field, located 200km from Nigerian shores. The mega facility is 330m in length, 61m in breadth, and 34m high. It boasts 2.3 million barrels of storage capacity with topsides weighing 60,000 tons.

Maersk Container Industry is introducing an energy meter with its Star Cool refrigerated containers. Star Cool refrigerated containers are now fitted with a new embedded digital feature that offers visibility and precise knowledge of actual energy consumption. To provide transparency into actual energy consumption throughout the transportation window, over land and sea, Maersk Container Industry (MCI) is introducing an energy meter feature integrated into all new Star Cool refrigerated containers. Maersk Line, the world’s largest container shipping company and part of Maersk’s Transport & Logistics division, became the first of MCI’s customers to take delivery of the new Star Cool reefers at the start of the year.

The advent of the subchapter M towboat rules – even though the bulk of the rules don’t come into effect until July of 2018 – requires a close look at your equipment. How you go about that important task will make all the difference. Towing vessels should be surveyed for Subchapter M regulatory compliance, regardless of the compliance option chosen, so companies can budget and plan for upgrades between now and July of 2018. Maritime Cook Islands Technical Department Reconstituted

Maritime Cook Islands (“MCI”), the international ship registry, hassignificantly enhanced its technical department with a series of senior appointments. The new department now has a much stronger presence in the key European market following the appointments of Paolo Favilli, Rachele Andreani, Brendan Smith and Andrea Emanuele Pippa. Brendan Smith is based in Rarotonga, Cook Islands,home of the flag while his three colleagues are based in Europe. CCS is Authorized RO for Maritime Cook Islands

Maritime Cook Islands (MCI) has authorized the China Classification Society (CCS) as a Recognized Organization (RO), to conduct survey and certification of ships flying the Cook Islands flag. The formal agreement between MCI and CCS which is a full member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), will significantly open up opportunities for the Cook Islands Flag in China and will benefit shipowners in the region. Maritime Cook Islands (“MCI”), the leading ship registry, registered an 11% growth in the fleet last year with 201 new vessels, up from 184 in 2014. The fleet grew from 473 vessels in 2014 to 525 vessels at the end of December. In tonnage added terms in 2015, this is equal to 318,245 gross tons or a 21% increase. Our latest figures show that 149 Vessels were de-registered in 2015 and these were mainly yachts coming to the end of a three or five year registration.It also included 20 SOLAS cargo vessels some of which were sold and changed flag but most of which went to scrap. PDMS Maritime has announced that it has been awarded a new contract to deliver its international ship registry and seafarer management platform (MARIS) to Maritime Cook Islands (MCI) Limited, the corporate administrators of the Cook Islands international ship registry. MARIS will replace MCI’s existing legacy systems to provide the registry with a new, modern and complete enterprise system which covers all the key aspects of their business including: registry, survey, seafarers and service operations.
