USN Awards Sub Safety Contracts

Oceaneering International Inc., Chesapeake, Virginia (N64498-19-D-0001); Huntington Ingalls Inc., Newport News, Virginia (N64498-19-D-0002); and General Dynamics Electric Boat, Groton, Connecticut (N64498-19-D-0003), are being awarded cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity multiple award contracts with firm-fixed-priced ordering provisions for Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE) and Level I engineering and technical services in the amounts of $827,674,072; $874,341,811; and $1,110,350,671, respectively. Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Repairs Towing-Supply Vessel "Nercha"

Major overhaul of the towing and supply vessel "Nercha" belonging to the Caspian Sea Oil Fleet of the “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping” CJSC has been accomplished at the “Bibiheybat” Ship Repair Yard.During the repair works the ship's main and auxiliary engines, pumps and pipeline systems were repaired. Moreover, the cabins of the crew, sanitary junctions and dining rooms have been renewed.At the same time, by lifting ship to the dock, the works on the adjustment of propulsion-steering complex, repairing of bottom-outboard fittings and protective installations were performed.The replacement of the damaged areas on the hull’s draft and its surface, which constituted a hazard for the flotation, was carried out.

CSSC to Restructure

The primary contractor for China's naval force China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC) is preparing a major asset reorganization involving its two subsidiaries, reported China Daily. The companies have halted stock trading on the Shanghai Stock Exchange The announcement said that whether the reforms take place would be decided in the next 10 trading days. CSSC Holdings Ltd and CSSC Offshore and Marine Engineering Co Ltd both acted upon the notices from their parent company about the potential asset reform by suspending their stock trading. The CSSC group is the parent of three listed companies. CSSC Science and Technology Co Ltd didn't respond to the notice.

Burgess Marine Partners with Mechanica Utilities

Burgess Marine has partnered with Kent-based Mechanica Utilities to maximize the use of its Dover footprint and share the company’s workshop and fabrication facilities, nationally, across all nine of its U.K. locations. Mechanica Utilities is a mechanical and electrical repair company which specializes in site work and workshop repairs on all mechanical and electrical equipment, mainly within the water utility market. Mechanica will share Burgess Marine’s facilities at its UK locations in  Dover, Lowestoft, Portsmouth, Portchester, Southampton, Marchwood, Poole, Avonmouth, and Devonport.

General Dynamics Awarded Navy SUBSAFE Contract

General Dynamics Electric Boat awarded submarine safety and maintenance contract. The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a contract to perform submarine safety program (SUBSAFE) and intermediate submarine maintenance work for submarines. This five-year, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract has a potential value of US$215.5-million. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics. Electric Boat will provide technical management, administrative and technical services, tools, equipment and facilities and required support to accomplish installation, repair and maintenance of weapons, hull, mechanical and electrical equipment.

Wartsila Opens New Facility in Helsinki

Wärtsilä has opened new workshop facilities in Helsinki, Finland. The new facilities enable Wärtsilä to offer a wide range of workshop services with rapid response times. Operations in Helsinki began in early August 2011. "The new workshop is strategically located near the main shipping routes and this, together with its efficient storage arrangements, will significantly enhance our service capacity. For customers with maintenance agreements, the added component storage will reduce transportation and travel costs, and ensure prompt response times for vessels operating in the Baltic area," says Christoph Vitzthum, Group Vice President, Wärtsilä Services.

A&P Tyne Re-Delivers FPSO Haewene Brim

A&P Tyne re-delivered the FPSO Haewene Brim to Holland’s Bluewater following an extensive upgrading to its process plant and hull maintenance period refit. The vessel will now return to the Pierce Field in the U.K. sector of the North Sea under charter to Shell U.K. The contract was won in a partnership between A&P Tyne Limited and McNulty Offshore Contractors Limited of South Shields, who were the prime contractor. The Pierce field is 150 miles due east of Aberdeen in the UKCS (U.K. continental shelf) with a 85 m water depth.

Tugboats Robbed in Arabian Sea

Pirates had a field day with mechanical and electrical equipment from two out-of-order tugboats that were anchored off the coast of the Arabian Sea near Manora Island. On Feb 24, the Docks Police registered an FIR against four masked men, who robbed the two tugboats. The police said that FIR No 36/06 was registered on the complaint of Ahsan Ali, who is a manager with Old Port (Pvt) Ltd, the company, which owns the tugboats. The Daily Times reported that Ali informed the police that the four men approached his company's boats in two separate vessels. They took the guards stationed at the tugboats hostage and loaded the stuff into their boats. The names of the tugboats are Jawa and Jawa Bosar. The pirates took away motors, some tools and copper and scrap.
