MOL ‘Tabletop Drill’ for Serious Marine Incident

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced that the company conducted a tabletop drill based on a scenario in which an iron ore carrier, managed by its group ship management company, collided with a breakwater, leaving it stranded in the Port of Kashima. The drill was held on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, with the goal of strengthening the company emergency response structure, which is based on the MOL Group Corporate Principles — nurture and protect the natural environment by maintaining the highest standards of operational safety and navigation. The exercise was also designed to ensure that the company can respond swiftly and appropriately in case of a serious marine incident, and maintain the timely flow of accurate information.

MOL Drill Prepares for Offshore Incident

Under cooperation with Japan's Coast Guard, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has conducted a tabletop drill based on a scenario in which fire occurred in the engine room on a bulk carrier while under way at Kudako channel in Inland Sea, resulting in the vessel going aground. MOL Drill Tests Disaster Response

MOL Table Top Drill Tests Response to Possible Product Tanker Collision, Fire in Tokyo Bay. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL, President: Koichi Muto) announced the completion of a table top drill based on a scenario in which the MOL Group-managed petroleum product tanker Raysut collided with another merchant vessel in Tokyo Bay, resulting in explosions and a fire on board. The three-hour drill, from 1pm (local time) to 4pm on Friday, 14 October, involved the Raysut as well as the 3rd Regional Coast Guard Headquarters and other organisations.

MITAGS Security Programs Available

Glen Paine, Executive Director of the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) and the Pacific Maritime Institute (PMI), announced the development of specific programs to assist maritime personnel in meeting the new Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) and International Ship and Port Security (ISPS) Code security regulations. Companion seminars have also been developed to provide additional knowledge in specific subject areas. This comprehensive training program is designed for personnel assigned to port, facility, company, or ship security officer responsibilities. The program includes detailed training and instruction in the development of security assessments, plans, and drills.

Background to Shipping Initiative Seminar Scheduled

Just three years after its introduction, the five-day Background to Shipping seminar from leading training provider Lloyd’s Maritime Academy is now established as a major foundation course for both experienced practitioners and industry newcomers. Enrolment is under way for the ninth seminar in the series, which takes place in central London from December 3-7 and, like its predecessors, is attracting staff from some of the world’s best-known shipowners, ship managers, and related service providers. Almost 200 delegates have attended the eight previous courses, with shipping professionals joined by support sector personnel ranging from bankers, insurers and lawyers to freight forwarders and port operators.

International Seminar Attracts a Crowd

Close to 300 delegates joined the International seminar with the theme 'Tanker Safety, Pollution Prevention, Spill Response and Compensation'.
