Catriona Savage, BMT’s Technical Assurance and Capability Director, has been names President of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA). She is the organization's first woman President.Savage, who is Honorary Professor at University College London Mechanical Engineering Department, takes over the RINA Presidency from Maurizio d’Amico who has served the institution over the last two years.Commenting on her presidency and vision for the future, Savage said, "I have been a member of RINA for over 25 years since I joined as a student at Southampton University.

The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) has elected John Hatley PE, Vice President, Americas, and Director of Market Shaping, Wärtsilä Marine Solutions, as a Fellow of the institution. Candidates for election as a Fellow (FRINA) must have demonstrated exceptional contributions to the profession, a record of superior achievements in their career and having held positions of responsibility. Nominees are endorsed by two sitting FRINA, following which a membership committee carries out a full professional review and assessment of the applicant's history of achievements.

Waterways Council, Inc. WCI will recognize Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Senator David Vitter (R-La.) for their “steadfast championship of the inland waterways” at its 14th Annual Leadership Service Awards on February 11. Paul Hankins, Vice President for Salvage Operations at Donjon Marine Co., Inc., was elected President, succeeding Tim Beaver, Global Diving & Salvage, Inc., who served as President from 2011-2013. Jim Elliott, T&T Marine Salvage, Inc., was named Secretary/Treasurer. Paul Hankins has over 30 years’ experience in the marine industry after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1981 with a Bachelors of Science in Naval Architecture and from George Washington University in 1991 with a Master’s degree in Environmental Management.

John K. Fulweiler, Esq. assumes Chair of the American Salvage Association's (ASA) Membership Committee. A Proctor-in-Admiralty, John is excited about the opportunity of continuing to support and contribute to the ASA's endeavors. John is the managing member of Fulweiler llc, a maritime law firm practicing in various East Coast jurisdictions in the United States. Formerly a partner in a New York maritime law firm, John K. Fulweiler graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Marine Affairs degree and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law. He is a licensed merchant mariner and served as a staff captain with a New England towing and salvage firm prior to law school.

Tim Beaver, Chief Executive Officer of Global Diving & Salvage, Inc., has been elected President of the American Salvage Association at its recent meeting in Arlington, VA, October 5, 2011. Beaver succeeds Mauricio Garrido, who served as President from 2009-2011. Paul Hankins, Donjon-SMIT, LLC, has been elected Vice President. Fred Hall was elected PVA 2002 President on Tuesday, February 19 during the PVA Annual Convention at MariTrends 2002 in Biloxi, Miss. Hall is Vice President and General Manager of the Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company, Port Jefferson, N.Y., a provider of ferry service across the Long Island Sound. This ferry service has been in business since 1883 and now operates three 100-vehicle/1000-passenger vessels. Prior to being elected PVA President, Hall has served as PVA Vice-President, PVA Secretary-Treasurer and co-chairman of the PVA Legislative Committee. He was also a founding member and a past chairman of the PVA Ferry Council.

-- ASA will work to help the U.S. Coast Guard review its current list of Salvage, Firefighting and Lightering contractors that provide service in response to the requirements of OPA-90. In the ASA’s view, the current list is out of date and does not present a realistic picture of U.S. salvage capabilities. -- ASA’s Salvage Training Program will continue, with the next class scheduled for the U.S. Coast Guard Gulf Strike Team at its facility in Mobile, AL during December 2004. -- ASA Associate Members will have the opportunity to join ASA Committees and attend ad-hoc meetings. Mr. Ken Edgar (Marine Response Consultants) and Capt. Jack Ringleberg (JMS Naval Architects & Salvage Engineers) were approved to act as Chair and Vice Chair of the Associate Membership Committee, respectively.

Tidewater announced the election of James C. Day to its Board of Directors for a term expiring in July 2008. Day comes to Tidewater with a distinguished and successful career in the oil and gas industry with thirty years of experience. Mr. Day is the retired Chairman of the Board and former CEO of Noble Corporation, founded in Oklahoma in 1921 and is currently one of the world's largest offshore drilling companies. During his 23 year tenure with Noble Corporation, the company evolved from primarily a domestic land drilling contractor to an international offshore drilling leader operating in fourteen countries. Noble's market capitalization grew tremendously during this timeframe and the company became a member of the Fortune 500. Mr.

Gary Frommelt, Hornblower Marine Services, Elizabeth, Ind., was elected 2003 PVA President on February 18 during the PVA Annual Convention at MariTrends 2003 held in Long Beach, CA. Other officers elected were PVA Vice President, David B. Clark, Golden Gate Ferry , Larkspur, CA, and PVA Secretary-Treasurer, Cornel Martin, Delta Queen Steamboat Company, New Orleans, LA. Frommelt serves as project manager for Hornblower Marine Services as director of marine operations for Caesars Indiana-home to the largest riverboat casino in the world. Frommelt was most recently PVA Vice President, has served on the PVA Board of Directors since 1996, and has been a long-term member of the Safety Committee.
