Mountevans Appointed Baltic Exchange Council Chairman

Jeffrey Mountevans has been appointed Chairman of the Baltic Exchange Council, effective January 1, 2023. He succeeds Denis Petropoulos, who has held the position since June 2019.A former Lord Mayor of London (2015/2016) and ex-Clarksons shipbroker, Mountevans is an elected hereditary cross-bench member of the House of Lords where he plays an active role on maritime, defense and Reserves and Cadet issues. MOL's Next-gen Coal Carrier Named in Japan

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) said that a naming ceremony was held Monday for the MOL-operated next-generation coal carrier at Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Japan.The 234.96 meters long vessel, with a  deadweight tonnage of 89,999 tons, will serve Hokuriku Electric Power Company. The vessel was named Hokulink by Hokuriku Electric Power President Matsuda. Oil Spill Response Organizations Merge Operations

Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) and Clean Caribbean & Americas (CCA) join up to meet the needs for global oil spill response. Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) is an industry-owned cooperative which exists to respond effectively to oil spills anywhere, anytime. OSRL provides preparedness, response and subsea well intervention services and works closely with other industry organisations e.g. IMO and IPIECA to share expertise and develop knowledge. OSRL will acquire CCA’s assets and personnel, with CCA’s Fort Lauderdale base in Florida becoming a regional response base supporting OSRL’s global response capability. Members of CCA will become Members of OSRL and thus receive membership services from OSRL going forward.

AAPA Adds Security Seminar to Schedule of Programs

The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) has added a seminar on port security to its industry-leading schedule of education and training programs. This AAPA Security Seminar, the third in two years, is set for July 30 through Aug. 1 at the Sheraton Los Angeles Harbor in San Pedro, Calif. "With security being by far the No. 1 priority for seaports today, we believe it is vital that we dedicate an entire 2½-day seminar to the myriad issues surrounding port security," said Kurt J. Nagle, President of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA). The AAPA Security Seminar will bring to an even dozen the number of annual conferences, seminars and related programs offered by the association.

AAPA Names Baer Director of Communications

Port industry veteran Lori A. Baer has been appointed director of communications of the American Association of Port Authorities. "We are pleased to be able to bring to this key position an experienced professional with such familiarity with the goals of ports throughout the Western Hemisphere," said Kurt J. Nagle, president of the AAPA. Baer began her port industry career at AAPA in 1982, initially as executive assistant to the president and then as director of membership services. She was involved in the development of the AAPA's highly successful education and training programs. In 1985, Baer began a 12-year stint at the Port of Miami, serving four years as marketing and public relations assistant and the final eight of those years as director of promotions and advertising.
