ClassNK CMAXS for Two MOL Ships

ClassNK Consulting Service Co., Ltd. developed next-generation diagnostic monitoring system “ClassNK CMAXS” has been chosen by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) for installation on two more ships operated by the company. The system is now installed on a total of six MOL-operated ships. The two ships are installed with CMAXS e-GICSX, a system which monitors electrically controlled main engine supplied by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., and CMAXS LC-A for auxiliary engines supplied by DAIHATSU DIESEL MFG. CO, LTD. Both CMAXS systems operate simultaneously, gathering information from VDR, data logger and main engine. This information (Big Data) is consolidated on a common platform for analysis and the potential future improvement.

Liverpool diesel-engine sales and maintenance specialists James Troop & Co is celebrating its landmark 150th anniversary with a surge in new business and export sales. The family-run company based in Runcorn is one of Liverpool’s longest-standing maritime and industrial businesses. It is reporting a 27pc sales hike on last year’s figures between January to June. Growth has steadily been recorded across the board with a notable increase in servicing work, spare parts sales and a massive surge in engine sales.

Marine Propulsion Market Poised for Growth -Report

The marine propulsion engine market was valued at $9 billion in 2015 and is projected to reach $12 billion by 2022, growing at a CAGR of 4.1 percent from 2016 to 2022, according to a new report published by Allied Market Research. Diesel propulsion system segment is expected to maintain its dominance throughout the forecast period. Asia-Pacific accounted for the highest share of 51 percent in 2015, and is anticipated to maintain this trend. Increase in production and sales of ships globally and rise in international seaborne trade drives the market growth.

Innovative A-Frame Crane for RV Sikuliaq

Recently installed aboard the R/V Sikuliaq was Allied Marine Crane’s innovatively redesigned A-Frame crane, which aims to improve the safety and capability of the marine research industry. Built at Allied Systems’ 250,000 sq. foot mfg. facility in Sherwood, Ore., the A-Frame was installed aboard 261-foot oceanographic research ship at the Bay Ship & Yacht Co. in Alameda, Calif. Jack W. Fisher Passes Away at 73

Jack W Fisher

Jack W Fisher, president of JW Fishers Mfg. passed away at home after a brief illness on February 20, 2015. He was 73 years old. The JW Fishers business was started because Fisher, an avid diver, needed an underwater metal detector to use on a salvage project in the mid 1960s. He discovered there was no such device available. Over the next several years he designed and constructed his own underwater metal detector. JW Fishers Mfg. was formed and Jack began building and selling his detectors to other divers.

Miller Expands Metal Cutting Offering

Miller Electric Mfg. Co. announced that it has consolidated the Smith Equipment oxy-fuel cutting equipment product line under the Miller brand. The consolidation expands the current Miller metal cutting offering, which includes a variety of portable plasma cutting packages. The oxy-fuel product line will continue to be manufactured in Watertown, S.D., to the same high quality standards. The only difference is that the name on the product will change to Miller, the company said.

U.S. Coast Guard Safety Alert

Problem With Mustang Inflatable PFD's. The Coast Guard has become aware of certain Mustang Survival Inflatable PFDs with Hammar MA1 hydrostatic (HIT) inflation systems which may not inflate and require a new re-arm kit to properly inflate by manual or automatic activation. This safety alert identifies which products are affected. Certain inflatable PDFs may be subject to delayed or non-inflations. To determine if you are impacted please follow the instructions below. If you have a re-arm kit MA7214 or MA7218 you need only to check the lot number on the CO2 cylinder label.

Side Scan Training for Law Enforcement, Government Agencies

Many public safety dive teams, police and sheriffs departments, and government agencies are acquiring side scan sonar systems to assist in their underwater search and survey operations. Side scan is the ideal tool for these operations because it produces detailed images of the underwater environment regardless of water clarity. In addition, the sonar is able to search large areas quickly, scanning several hundred feet of ocean, lake, or river bottom with each pass of the boat. Side scan can easily locate a variety of targets including sunken boats, submerged vehicles, and drowning victims.

PMFG Win $13.7M Navy Contract

PMFG, Inc. (Parent of Peerless Mfg. Co.) Notice of Award Valued at $13.7 Million to Supply Air Moisture Separation and Filtration Systems to U.S. PMFG, Inc. (Nasdaq:PMFG) has announced it was awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy's Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD) to provide the air inlet moisture separation/filtration systems to replace the existing systems on the Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) class. The five-year, multiple-award, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity firm-fixed-price contract could have a potential value of approximately $13.7 million, if all options are exercised. This order value will be added incrementally to the Company's backlog as purchase orders are released under the contract.

Expanding Underwater Search Capabilities

Over the past year a number of Asian companies and government agencies have acquired underwater search equipment to aid in the location of lost objects and assist in performing survey operations. In China, Guangzhou Advanced Maritime Academy has added a remote operated underwater vehicle (ROV) to their program. Reforms and opening to the outside world have paved the way for development of the country’s shipping industry. The throughput of cargo and containers at China’s ports has been the largest in the world for the past five years with an annual growth rate of 35%.

High-Tech Hull Coating Receives NYSERDA Funding

Greenfield Manufacturing Inc., a Saratoga Springs chemical manufacturing company, has received New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) funding of $183,000 to help commercialize and deploy a high-tech hull coating that can improve boat engine efficiency by reducing friction. HullSpeed High Performance Coatings, a division of Greenfield, produces eco-friendly alternatives to current marine paints and coatings that can be environmentally harmful. Greenfield was established in 1998 as an industrial chemical manufacturing facility. The company matched NYSERDA’s investment. HullSpeed High Performance Coatings is currently involved in an EPA study in San Diego Harbor to determine the effectiveness of alternative, environmentally- friendly marine paints and coatings.
