Coast Guard Searching for 2 People East of Jupiter Inlet

The Coast Guard continues to search Tuesday for two missing people 46 miles east of Jupiter Inlet.The two people missing are a Bahamian national, a suspected migrant smuggler, and a 9-year-old Haitian national.

Ocean Signal Beacon Saves Two in Atlantic Ocean Rescue

An Ocean Signal rescueME PLB1 was key to saving the lives of two people after a dramatic rescue in the Atlantic Ocean. Sandy Williamson and his crew, Corey, activated their Ocean Signal personal locator beacon when their 22-foot yellow catamaran started taking on water about 20 nautical miles off the Miami coast. The U.S. Coast Guard 7th District command centre in Miami received the emergency alert just after 11 a.m. on Sunday morning (October 27, 2013) and immediately launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to the area.

Overturned Boat Kills Four off Miami Coast

Four people were killed and 11 rescued after a boat capsized off the Miami coast early Wednesday morning, the U.S. Coast Guard reported. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami received a report at about 1 a.m. from a Miami-Dade County 911 dispatch of the capsized vessel and launched a boatcrew from Station Miami Beach and an MH-65 helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami to respond. The rescue crews arrived on scene, approximately seven miles east of Government Cut and rescued 11 people from the water. One of the survivors was medically evacuated to Station Miami Beach where emergency medical services awaited and transported him to a local hospital. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased," said Capt.

Jordan Hanssen, recently rescued OAR Northwest transatlantic rower, sponsored by the Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) made great efforts to visit his rescuers at two USCG stations for Military Appreciation Month last week. Both the Clearwater and Miami Coast Guard Air Stations involved in the early April rescue received a gratitude visit from Jordan, who also presented them with a thank you plaque. But what really resonated with the Miami and Clearwater rescue crews were the homemade cookies sent to them by Jordan’s mother, which also included a touching letter expressing her gratitude.

Cargo Ship Loses Containers in Heavy Seas

The container ship Seaboard Voyager lost four of its containers approximately 18 miles north of Puerto de Tanamo, Cuba, Wednesday 2:18 p.m. Coast Guard Marine Safety Office Miami received the report from the ship's master at 11:30 a.m. yesterday that Seaboard Voyager encountered rough seas and bad weather off the Cuban coast and four containers became loose. The Coast Guard instructed the master to anchor the ship off the coast of Miami so safety inspectors could make sure the ship was safe to enter the Port of Miami. After an initial safety inspection of the containers onboard, it was decided by inspectors that Seaboard Voyager was safe to enter the port.

Coast Guard Suspends Search for Missing Cruise Ship Passenger

The Coast Guard suspended its search at for the man believed to have fallen off the cruise ship Mariner of the Seas while transiting from Cape Canaveral, Fla., to Coco Cay, Bahamas. Daniel Dipiero, 21, a resident of Augusta, Ohio, was last seen around midnight Sunday. He was reported missing at approximately 11 a.m. Monday when friends he was traveling with could not find him on the ship. After the cruise ship completed on board announcements, searches of the ship and sweeps of Coco Cay the Coast Guard was notified at 7 p.m. Monday. Approximately 900 square miles of ocean were searched by rescue crews from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., Coast Guard Air Station Miami, Coast Guard Cutter Dolphin and the Bahamian Air and Sea Rescue Association.
