Austal Delivers First Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boat to Australian Navy
Australian shipbuilding group Austal announced it has delivered the first of six Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats (ECCPB’s) to the Royal Australian Navy.The 58-meter aluminum monohull patrol boat, ADV Cape Otway, is the first of six to be delivered to the Royal Australian Navy under a A$324 million contract awarded to Austal Australia in May 2020. Canberra Paddlers Race for Resilience
Sailors and officers in Canberra have put Navy’s Resilience Plan into practice, by teaming up for dragon boat racing on Lake Burley Griffin. The event was organised by the New Generation Navy program team as an opportunity to build teamwork and fitness in a relaxed environment. Among the 32 paddlers who signed up were Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Tim Barrett and Deputy Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Michael Noonan, who enjoyed the fierce but friendly competition. The paddlers were drawn from a wide range of areas and each varied in experience, and it was local unit, Australia's Federation Guard’s Petty Officer Maritime Logistics - Support Operations Sonia Leon Sepulveda’s second dragon boating experience.
20 Nations Reinforce their Commitment to Fight Piracy
Senior officers from Australia and 19 other nations attended the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) meeting in Sydney this week to reinforce the importance of a regional approach to combat piracy and armed robbery at sea. ReCAAP facilitates capacity building efforts and information sharing among its member countries. Rear Admiral Michael Noonan, Commander of Maritime Border Command of the Australian Border Force (ABF), which includes ABF and Defence, stressed the importance of ReCAAP as the only multi-nation regional forum dedicated to combatting piracy and sea robbery.
