Offshore vessel provider Telford Offshore's offshore accommodation and hook-up unit Telford 28 was attacked earlier this week while anchored in Mexico. One crew member was injured.In an email sent to Offshore Engineer, Telford Offshore said: "We can confirm that the Telford 28 came under attack while anchored at Cuidad Del Carmen, Mexico on the evening of 14th April.""Mexican Navy responded quickly and attended vessel. All personnel are now safe, although one Telford crew member suffered injuries in the attack," Telford Offshore said.According to Telford Offshore, the injured crewmember was quickly transferred to hospital ashore and is recovering well. Pirates attacked an Italy-flagged offshore supply vessel in the southern Gulf of Mexico, injuring two crew members, the Mexican Navy said on Tuesday, in the latest outbreak of robbery and piracy to hit oil platforms and infrastructure in the area.One of the crew members of the vessel, Remas, received a bullet wound, and the other suffered a concussion, and both were transferred to a nearby hospital, the Navy said in a statement.Owned by Italian offshore contractor Micoperi, Remas…

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Houston-based subsidiary TITAN Salvage and Italian engineering partner Micoperi were honored with the International Salvage Union (ISU) Meritorious Service Award during the organization’s Associate Members’ Day Conference in London. The award was presented by ISU President Leendert Muller in recognition of TITAN and Micoperi’s outstanding service to the salvage industry during the successful execution of the largest single maritime wreck removal project ever to be undertaken, the Costa Concordia.

With Concordia finally in dock, Italian marine contractor Micoperi reports that the Saab Seaeye Falcon ROV played a vital role in diver safety during the largest maritime salvage operation in history. Fabio Bartolotti of Micoperi, the contractor responsible for the project, said that the Falcon worked every day of the salvage operation, spending more than 1,000 hours in the water. He noted that every single time a diver entered the water the Falcon was deployed in their support and for their safety.

The largest and most complex maritime salvage operation ever carried out was concluded this summer. The Costa Concordia parbuckling operation on the rocks of the Italian island of Giglio has been a success in many ways—not least for the objective to retrieve in one piece, such a massive vessel (117,000 tons) with minimal damage to the delicate marine environment on which it foundered. High performance ropes with Dyneema played a key role in the operation. DSM Dyneema has been supplying UHMWPE fiber, branded as Dyneema  for ropes used in tug and salvage operations for almost 15 years.

Crowley Maritime Corp. subsidiary TITAN Salvage and project partner Micoperi has confirmed that the Costa Concordia – the Concordia-class cruise ship that wrecked off Giglio Island, Italy in January 2012 – is safely moored at the Port of Genoa Voltri, Italy, marking what they describe as the completion of the largest maritime salvage job in history. Towing the disabled ship from the Tuscan Archipelago to the Mediterranean seaport of Genoa was a remarkably delicate task that required a convoy of more than a dozen support vessels, including two tugboats with a combined 24,000 horsepower and 275 tons of bollard pull at the bow for the hull, and two additional auxiliary tugs positioned aft.

According to the latest update, after approximately 30 hours of navigation, the Concordia has travelled 63 nautical miles at an average speed of 2 knots, informs the salvors' website 'The Parbuckling Project'. The convoy is located between Isola d’Elba and Corsica. The sea is calm, while the wind has a North/North East direction with a speed of approximately 13 knots. The assessments performed on sponsons and they connections – cables, chains and strand-jacks - have given positive results. The climate on board is calm and the navigation proceeds without problems. In three weeks, the Costa Concordia wreck will be towed to Genoa for demolition and recycling. At the end of the Conferenza dei Servizi meeting held yesterday, June 25, in Rome, Costa Crociere reaffirmed the motivations for the choice of the transportation of the Concordia wreck in Genoa for its dismantling and recycling, stating Genoa is the only Italian port in which demolition and recycling activities can start immediately and count on the best possible technologies and environmental safety standards.

Work to remove the wreck of the 'Costa Concordia' cruise liner from Italy's Giglio Island was suspended on Wednesday as a decision has not been made on where the vessel will be taken to be demolished, reports Xinhua, citing local reports. In addition, according to Costa Crociere & Titan Micoperi, the Observatory has yet to give permission for the installation of 18 sponsons still to be positioned. Italian officials had previously said the Costa Concordia, which has been lying on its side since Jan. 13, 2012 when it capsized with 4,252 passengers on board leaving 32 dead, would be removed from Giglio in June. The wrecked cruise liner, which weighs around 114,500 tons and is 290-meter long, was lifted upright in September 2013 after an unprecedented salvage operation.

Titan Micoperi sadly announces that a diver from the Consortium passed away after an accident occurred during underwater operations in progress under the wreck. The salvage contractors add that the diver, of Spanish nationality, 41 years old, was involved in the operations aimed at preparing the wreck for the installation of the sponsons on the starboard side. Titan Micoperi Consortium communicates that early this morning four unauthorized people have been noticed on board the Concordia. They were identified through the surveillance video system as operators of Titan Salvage and notified to local police. The company has taken immediate action to remove workers from the project. Works to increase stability of the uprighted, but still grounded, wreck are in progress at Giglio island as winter approaches. Adverse weather conditions registered recently, have caused minor movements of the wreck, considered by engineers as  settlement  on the false seabed, confirm the need to move forward with the so-called winterization measures to further stabilize the wreck for the winter. The Italian Civil Protection announced that human remains have been found by divers from the public order services as part of the search process following the parbuckling operation. DNA testing will be made for confirmation that the remains belong to the two missing victims of the Concordia shipwreck. Salvage engineers in Italy have succeeded in setting the cruise ship upright, 20 months after it ran aground off the island of Giglio, killing 32 persons. 7.00 P.M. Monday: The Titan Micoperi consortium announced that strandjack operations were temporarily suspended for an hour for maintenance work. It was in fact necessary to intervene with a dedicated team to avoid slack cables from interfering with the tensioned cables. The ship has rotated approximately 25° with respect to the starting position.

At 0900 local time, 16, September,  the Titan Micoperi Consortium announced that Parbuckling operations had commenced. Capt Nick Sloane, the Senior Salvage Master, gave the order to activate the commands that will be sent from the Control Room on the barge “Polluce” in the immediate vicinity of the bow of the Concordia. All commands and signals – e.g. activation of strand jacks, opening and closing of sponson valves, information about the position of the wreck – will be sent to and from the barge control room via two separate “umbilicals” (one used as a back-up for the other)…

The salvage operation (known as the 'parbuckling project') to upright the wreck of the partially sunken 'Costa Concordia' has been given provisional approval by the Italian government's Civil Protection Department and is expected ot take place at a convenient date in September. The meeting convened in Rome was at the headquarters of the Civil Protection Department and was attended by the Emergency Commissioner Franco Gabrielli, as well as representatives from the Advisory Committee, the Observatory, the Micoperi-Titan Consortium and the cruise line Costa Crociere.

'Observatory' advisory group of Costa Crociere managers, academics & salvors, brief  the local Giglio community on progress. At the periodic meeting of the 'Observatory' with the Giglio community, president Maria Sargentini, accompanied by Costa Crociere managers, Rome La Sapienza University researchers and Titan/Micoperi Consortium experts, updated the local population on recovery operations and described the progress being made on the characterisation of water inside the wreck.

Costa Crociere & Titan-Micoperi representatives to present a progress report to the authorities for evaluation of the 'parbuckling project' & gain approval for wreck removal operations to commence in September 2013. The report will be presented to the Commissioner for the Concordia Emergency Franco Gabrielli, the Observatory for Concordia Removal and the Mayor of Giglio at Civil Protection headquarters in Rome. As part of the salvage plan to remove the wreck of the Costa Concordia, to be carried out by the Italo-American Titan-Micoperi consortium appointed by Costa Crociere, Fincantieri has been awarded a contract worth tens of millions of euros for the building of the watertight boxes, known as caissons, to be used in the operation to refloat the ship. A total of 30 steel caissons, with combined weight of approximately 11,500 tonnes, will be built in different Fincantieri shipyards. The Costa Concordia salvage plan entails the use of these caissons in order to right and refloat the wreck so that it can be removed in one piece. A system of hydraulic 'strand-jacks' fixed to an underwater platform will be used in conjunction with the caissons to right the vessel.

The stricken cruise ship will spend another winter partially submerged close off the coast of Giglio, Italy. The consortium hired to re-float and remove the 114,500-ton ship presented this month a new timeline to the Osservatorio, the entity supervising the wreck salvage operations. Ferguson Group’s accommodation service vessel, 'ASV Pioneer', deployed in the Mediterranean on a six-month contract with salvors Titan-Micoperi. The new contract, with Titan-Micoperi, is for the ASV Pioneer to provide a support role to the salvage operation including provision of accommodation for up to 90 team members, plus deck space for specialist equipment for the salvage operation. Titan Salvage with their partner Micoperi, are industry leaders in global salvage response and are involved in the removal of the wreck of the Costa Concordia cruise ship, which partially sank in January 2012 after hitting a reef off the Italian coast and running aground at Isola del Giglio.
