Seastreak New Jersey To Be Christened

Local and state dignitaries will converge on the Monmouth County waterfront to take part in the official unveiling and christening of the M/V SeaStreak New Jersey. and East 34th St. in Manhattan. The christening ceremony will be held on Monday, December 10, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Atlantic Highlands Municipal Marina, Pier 6 in Atlantic Highlands. Honoring an ancient tradition and officially naming the vessel will be its Godmother, Miss New Jersey Julie Barber. Among those participating in the ceremony will be a representative of the Coast Guard Reverend Peter Larom of the Seaman's Church in Manhattan. Highlands and South Amboy have also been invited to participate in the festivities.

M/V SeaStreak Liberty Offers New Route

SeaStreak America will begin offering Central Jersey commuters who travel into Manhattan a new and efficient mode of transportation. The "M/V SeaStreak Liberty" will operate from the new South Amboy Ferry Landing, 135 Lower Main Street, on the city's redeveloped waterfront. Beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2002, the SeaStreak Liberty will provide five weekday departures from South Amboy. The 82-ft. high-speed catamaran carries 300 passengers to Pier 11 (Wall Street) and East 34th Street in New York City. SeaStreak's general manager David Stafford said, "SeaStreak is pleased to see this important and exciting project come to fruition.

Proposals Sought For U.S. Ferry Ops

Notice was recently posted by the Middlesex County Improvement Authority on behalf of the City of South Amboy and the South Amboy Redevelopment Agency for proposals for the operation of a private passenger ferry and/or the development and operation of a marine facility. Beginning September 19, 2000, the RFP will be available at the offices of the Middlesex Country Improvement Authority (MCIA) located at 101 Interchange Plaza, Cranbury, NJ 08512; tel: (609) 655-5141; Fax: (609) 655-1690. All communications and all proposals are to be filed to the same address, to the attention only of Denise Nickel. Bids will be accepted until 10:00 a.m. on November 1, 2000.
