Ingalls Shipbuilding Promotes Wilkinson, Duthu

Huntington Ingalls Industries’ ( HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division announced that Richard Schenk, vice president of program management, will retire on July 1 after 33 years of service. He will be succeeded by Kari Wilkinson, effective May 23. Ingalls also announced that Mike Duthu has been promoted to vice president, business development, effective immediately. “Richard has made significant contributions to our past, current and future business objectives, and we owe him our gratitude and thanks,” Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Cuccias said.

Ingalls-Built 'Somerset' (LPD 25) Passes Navy Acceptance Trials

Huntington Ingalls Industries announce that the amphibious transport dock 'Somerset' (LPD 25) has returned from successful U.S. Navy acceptance sea trials. The company's ninth ship in the San Antonio (LPD 17) class returned to the company's Avondale facility following three days of at-sea demonstrations and testing. Warship Somerset Completes Builder Ingalls' Sea Trials

The amphibious transport dock 'Somerset' (LPD 25), the ninth San Antonio-class ship built at Huntington Ingalls Industries'  Ingalls Shipbuilding division, returns from successful builder's sea trials in the Gulf of Mexico. Ingalls' test and trials team spent three days operating the ship and going through its normal at-sea checklist, which includes more than 200 test events. "We put Somerset through rigorous testing last week," said Mike Duthu, director of Ingalls' LPD Program. "We are extremely pleased with the fit and finish on the ship and how well she performed.

USCG Shipbuilding: Ingalls Wins $76m Advance Procurement Contract

Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) said that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division received a $76 million fixed-price contract from the U.S. Coast Guard to purchase long-lead materials for a sixth National Security Cutter (NSC). Construction and delivery of the yet-to-be-named WMSL 755 will be performed at the company's Pascagoula facility. A second phase of the contract, when awarded, would bring the overall value to $88 million. Ingalls Starts Fabrication on USCG Cutter

Ingalls Shipbuilding celebrated "start of fabrication" for the U.S. Coast Guard National Security Cutter Hamilton (WMSL 753) at its Steel Fabrication Shop in Pascagoula, Miss. Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HII) said that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division celebrated the "start of fabrication" of the U.S. Coast Guard's fourth National Security Cutter, Hamilton (WMSL 753). The shipbuilding milestone signifies that 100 tons of steel have been cut and fabricated utilizing a robotic plasma arc cutting machine at Ingalls' steel fabrication complex. Ingalls received the $480 million contract to build Hamilton in November 2010. The ship is scheduled to be delivered to the U.S. Coast Guard in the fall of 2014.

Deepwater Cutter Achieves Milestone

The U.S. Coast Guard's 140-ft. requirements milestone resulting in the ship being one step closer to construction commencement. The fast-response cutter is being built by Integrated Coast Guard Systems (ICGS), a joint venture between Northrop Grumman Corporation and Lockheed Martin, under the Integrated Deepwater System Program. The purpose of the systems requirements review was to present the ship concept to the Coast Guard and to confirm the customer requirements have been sufficiently developed, so the ICGS team can proceed to design development. The new cutter has been developed to meet post-Sept. 11 mission requirements. The new composite-hulled craft, to be manufactured at Northrop Grumman's Gulfport, Miss., composites center, will have a 40-year hull-life.
