Crowley Delivers Hydroelectric Transformers

Crowley transported and delivered 11 oversized electrical transformers in Costa Rica during the week of Feb. 16 to be installed at a hydroelectric dam in the country. The units, which were shipped with Crowley as part of an ongoing project move, will help convert water energy into electricity for cities and towns. The transformers, each 11 ft tall and weighing more than 10 long tons, were manufactured by a Mississippi-based company and loaded in Port Everglades aboard Crowley's Ro/Ro ship Ambassador for the trip to Limon, Costa Rica. Crowley utilized 48 ft flatbed trailers for the move.

Kattán de Jordán and Sweep Awarded Thomas Crowley Trophies

Claudia Kattán de Jordán, general manager, Honduras and Nicaragua, for Crowley Maritime Corporation's liner services group, and Cal Sweep, director of facilities development for the corporation in Jacksonville, were awarded 2005 Thomas Crowley trophies, the company's highest honor, at ceremonies last week in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Created 20 years ago, the Thomas Crowley Trophy award honors employees with outstanding performance, whose dedication, leadership, initiative and productivity most clearly reflect those of the company's founder. The trophy, a limited edition, bronze sculpture depicting young Thomas Crowley as he ferried goods to and from ships on San Francisco Bay in the early 1890s, is a tribute to the founder of the company as well as the winners of the award.

MLL Aligns Management Structure

Maersk Line, Limited (MLL) has announced a realignment of its Senior Management Team structure to serve clients and grow its position in target markets. William J. (Bill) Kenwell will assume the title of Senior Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer with responsibility for leading commercial activities and relationships with key government agencies. Reporting to Kenwell will be MLL’s U.S.-flag Liner and Integrated Defense Logistics business units as well as all Marketing and Proposal activities. Kenwell will report to MLL’s President and Chief Executive Officer, John Reinhart. All of MLL’s maritime-related business units will transfer reporting to Steve Carmel, Senior Vice President, Maritime Services.
