GE to Supply Propulsion Systems for MARAD's New Training Ships

GE’s Power Conversion business has been awarded a $40 million contract to supply the power and propulsion systems for two National Security Multi-Mission Vessels (NSMV). Wabtec to Supply Engines for Marad's NSMV Fleet

Full Utilization of HMTF Passes in U.S. House

This evening the U.S. House of Representatives passed by a recorded vote the Full Utilization of the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund (HMTF), H.R. 2440. The vote was 296 in favor and 109 opposed. The voting required a two-thirds super majority of the House in order to pass under “suspension of the rules.”There were  seventeen (17) bills presented in the House of Representatives today with fifteen (15) bills passing by voice vote. US House Asks for Lakes Dredge Funds Increase

The U.S. House of Representatives has sent another clear signal that it is committed to ending the dredging crisis on the Great Lakes, introducing an amendment to the Energy & Water Appropriations bill that mandates that the Great Lakes Navigation System gets the 10 percent of increased funding for dredging that is promised in the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2014 that was passed seven weeks ago. The amendment was co-authored by Congressmen Sean Duffy (R-Wisc.) and Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) and introduced by Rep. Kelly.

Australian Navy Collins Class Submarines Update

Minister for Defense Stephen Smith and Minister for Defense Materiel Mike Kelly today announced further significant initiatives to both maintain the capability of Australia’s Collins Class submarine fleet and further improve Collins Class maintenance, sustainment and availability. The Collins Class submarine fleet of six submarines is an essential part of Australia’s national security capability. The first Collins Class submarine, HMAS Collins, was commissioned in July 1996. The sixth and last of the Collins Class, HMAS Rankin, was commissioned in March 2003. The Collins Class was designed with a theoretical platform life of 28 years, which provides for an on paper indicative service life for the fleet of 2024 to 2031.

AMCS Wins Pacific Patrol Boat Training Contract

The Australian Minister for Defense Materiel Mike Kelly announced the signing of a $21 million four-year contract with AMC Search Ltd to provide Pacific Patrol Boat (PPB) training services. Dr. Kelly said AMC Search Ltd (AMCS) is the commercial arm of the Australian Maritime College, located in Launceston, Tasmania. “The contract is for a range of technical, operational and administration courses for students from the 11 nations participating in the PPB Program,” Dr. Kelly said. “An annual suite of 16 separate training programs are to be delivered in Launceston. “Courses will range in duration from 10 days to 12 weeks and AMCS will also deliver some training in individual countries. “It is anticipated that approximately 140 – 160 students will undertake training each year.

High Power Phased Array Radar Development

The Australian Department of Defense released a request for tender to CEA Technologies for the development of a High Power Phased Array Radar concept demonstrator. CEA Technologies Pty Ltd is a Canberra-based company whose CEAFAR radar is being fitted to the ANZAC Class Frigates of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) as part of the ANZAC Class Anti-Ship Missile Defense Upgrade project. “This tender is for the development of radar systems based on the CEAFAR radar which could support future naval acquisitions such as the Royal Australian Navy’s Future Frigates through Project SEA 5000,” Minister for Defense Materiel Dr. Mike Kelly AM MP said. The CEAFAR radar is a focus of the Phased Array Radar element of the High Frequency and Phased Array Radar Priority Industry Capability (PIC).
