Foss Christens Second Arctic Class Ocean Tug

The second of three new state-of-the-art Arctic Class tugs, the Denise Foss, was christened June 1, 2016 at the Foss Waterway Seaport in Tacoma, Wash. Built at the Foss Rainier, Ore. Shipyard, the Denise is designed to operate in the extreme conditions of the far north, and will enter service this summer. Foss COO John Parrott conducted opening remarks. Foss Christens New Arctic Class Ocean Tug

The first of three Arctic Class tugs being built at the Foss Rainier, Ore. Shipyard was christened Thursday, April 9, at the Foss Waterway Seaport in Tacoma, Wash. The vessel, the Michele Foss, will see its first assignment on an oil field sealift this summer from South Korea to the Alaskan Arctic. Mike Magill, Vice President of Foss' Technical Services, made opening remarks at the christening, praising the hardworking men and women who constructed the vessel. "As we know, a construction project of this magnitude requires significant teamwork to accomplish," Magill said.

Foss Maritime's Has New Director of Sales

Foss Maritime announced that Carl Smith has recently joined the company as the Director of Sales and Marketing for its Fleet Services Division based out of Seattle. He will be reporting to Mike Magill, Vice President of Fleet Services. Previously employed by Alaska Ship and Dry Dock (ASD), Smith was part of the ASD Management Team for 18 years. Early in his career, his responsibilities at ASD included Management of Production and Operations and, prior to joining Foss, he served as Director of Marketing.

Foss Honors Newbuild POLB Fireboat

The first of two new fireboats built by Foss Maritime for the Port of Long Beach (POLB) was dedicated in a blessing ceremony on Thursday, May 1 at Foss Maritime's Seattle Shipyard, the company said. The vessel, named Fireboat 20, is being readied for service and is slated for delivery to Long Beach, Calif., this summer. Gary Faber, Foss Senior Vice President, made opening remarks and praised the hardworking men and women who helped construct the vessel. New Director of Engineering for Foss

Foss Maritime announced that Michael Minnig has been promoted to Director of Engineering. Minnig joined Foss in 2012 with more than 15 years of naval architecture experience in vessel design, shipyard construction support, and project management. He has a background in vessel stability assessment, structural engineering including finite element analysis and 3-D modeling. "Michael brings strong technical skills coupled with extensive industry experience to his new position, " said Mike Magill, Vice President of Technical Services for Foss, who made the announcement.

Foss Maritime to Expand Ocean Tug Fleet

Tug and barge operator to build three new Arctic Class deep-sea tugs at Northwest shipyard. Responding to new oil and gas industry opportunities, Foss Maritime Company will build the first three tugs in an innovative Arctic Class of tugs, a fleet expansion that broadens its capacity to take on large projects in extreme environments. Construction on the first tug starts in early 2013 at Foss' Rainier, Ore., shipyard, work which will bring additional jobs to the growing Columbia River facility. Foss Key Management Assignments

Foss Maritime announced that two marine transportation veterans - one a longtime Foss manager and the other newly hired employee with extensive senior management experience - will take over key assignments at the company. Andy Stephens has been promoted to Vice President, Business and Planning Development, where he will be responsible for developing initiatives for the consolidated business activities of Foss Maritime. Stephens, who joined the company in 1993, will also become chief of staff to Foss Maritime COO and President Gary Faber. Meanwhile, Faber announced the hiring of Mike Magill, who will become Vice President, Technical Services. He will take over responsibilities for Foss' shipyards, purchasing and engineering departments; areas previously managed by Stephens.
