The city of Jeffersonville, Ind. announced plans are underway to redevelop the shuttered site of one of the nation’s oldest, largest and best-known inland shipbuilders.The city said it is working with the property's owner American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) to develop a master plan for the 80-acre site along the Ohio Riverfront that was once home to Jeffboat. NAMEPA Seattle Seminar May 25, 2011
April 25, 2011—The North American Marine Environmental Protection Association (NAMEPA) will present its Environmental Intelligence in Shipping Seminar Series in Seattle on May 25th at the Bell Harbor Conference Center beginning at noon with lunch. The seminar will explore many of the environmental issues facing the Port of Seattle in its centennial year, including air emissions, storm water runoff, marine life habitats, and lessons from the Deepwater Horizon incident. “Seattle has been one of the most proactive ports in North America,” stated NAMEPA Co-Founder Clay Maitland.
Transocean Sedco Forex Reports Rescue
Transocean Sedco Forex Inc. announced that its drillship, Peregrine III, has safely rescued the nine-member crew of the survey-and-recovery vessel ALOHA, which was lost at sea about 100 nautical miles northeast of Cozumel while under way to a historical and bullion wreck. The ALOHA reported that it had lost power and was taking on water on Thursday, February 7. Also responding were a German container vessel, MV Libra Houston, and a Norwegian cruise ship, Rhapsody At Sea. The ALOHA crewmembers, including four U.S. citizens and five Filipinos, were taken aboard the Peregrine III from an ALOHA life raft. No medical problems were reported among the rescued crewmembers. The ALOHA, a dynamically positioned ROV (remotely operated vehicle) survey ship, belongs to Deepsea International (DSI).
Moore's First Priority At WTO: Helping The Poor
Mike Moore, taking over as new head of the World Trade Organization, pledged on Wednesday that he would devote "all efforts" to help poor countries to benefit from freer global trade. He also called on the richer powers to play their part by throwing open their markets to goods from poorer regions. The former New Zealand prime minister said that addressing the plight of the poorest members had to be a key element of the agenda for the WTO's third Ministerial Conference at the end of this year.
