Norwegian company Miko Marine will deliver four cofferdams and water inlet covers for a Modec FPSO being built in China.The FPSO, under construction at the DSIC yard in Dalian, will operate at Equinor's Bacalhau field offshore Brazil.Miko Marine said that the new sea chest inlet covers are scheduled for delivery in March 2021.They feature Miko’s magnetic attachments and will be available to be fitted and used repeatedly without the need for welding or permanent hull attachments.

A diving contractor has removed oil from the wrecked research vessel Thetis, more than 30 years after the vessel sank.When the fishery research vessel Thetis went down into 30 meters of water close to Smøgen on the west coast of Sweden in 1985, it took a substantial quantity of fuel oil down with it. More than 440 tons of heavy fuel oil was extracted from the tanks of the sunken general cargo vessel Thorco Cloud. The wreck lies in two sections 1,730 meters apart and 70 meters down in the middle of the eastbound traffic lane of the Singapore Strait following a collision in December 2015. The heavy oil in the fuel tanks and in trapped compartments was seen as a major pollution hazard. Both the bow and stern sections contained fuel tanks that required emptying, so the Thorco Cloud’s owner, Marship GmbH, supported by the P&I insurance company Standard Club, contracted Jaya Salvage Indonesia early last year. Bumi Subsea provided remotely operated vehicles (ROV) and the dynamically positioned Surf Allamanda, owned by Bourbon Offshore.

An improved and upgraded version of the Miko Marine ShipArrestor system has been delivered to the Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA). The system has been developed to give nations the ability to protect their coastlines from the danger of ships that have lost engine power and from the pollution that can result when they run aground. The ShipArrestor system uses a specially designed parachute-shaped sea anchor that is connected to a drifting ship by helicopter and secured without any need for crew involvement.

Teekay's Randgrid is currently undergoing a major conversion into a floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel with work that includes the installation of an internal turret mooring system. Oslo-based Miko Marine said it has delivered four unique magnetic sea chest blanks for use during the conversion work at the Sembawang dockyard in Singapore. The Miko closures are now on site and ready to be used to create safe conditions for technicians working inside the vessel's sea chests.

Teekay Shipping has ordered four sea chest blanks from Norwegian magnetic technology specialists, Miko Marine. The closures will be delivered in August for use on the former shuttle tanker Randgrid which is currently undergoing a $220 million conversion into the Gina Krog floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel in Sembawang dockyard in Singapore. Conversion work includes the installation of an internal turret mooring system and on completion the new FSO will be operated by Teekay on Statoil’s Gina Krog field in the North Sea.

A policy of safety enhancement has resulted in Odfjell Drilling recruiting the expertise of Miko Marine to design and manufacture a complete package of sea chest covers and cofferdams that use magnetic holding technology for increased efficiency. The new closures have been designed specifically for use during work on the semi-submersible drilling rig Deepsea Stavanger. Miko already had a detailed understanding of the practicalities of sea chest closure and was able to apply its experience to the challenge. Achieving the necessary level of safety assurance required all components to be manufactured to specified standards and digitally analysed during the design phase to guarantee the structural strength and performance of each component.

Miko Marine AS has appointed Spencer Go as managing director of its new subsidiary in Singapore which was established in May. Miko Marine Asia Pte Ltd has opened a new office in Lokyang, Singapore from where Spencer Go will be spearheading the sale of Miko products and services throughout Asia. Go will be supported by Indonesia-based naval architect Per Johansson who is an established member of the Miko team and is known in the region for his knowledge of innovative marine and offshore heavy lift and transportation contracting.

Options include sealing the wreck or recovering the pollutant in a controlled manner, which Moskito seeks to do.

Miko Marine AS has opened a subsidiary in Morgan City, La. from where it will be able to supply ship operators and salvage companies throughout the United States with its range of products, including its magnetic patches to prevent ships from sinking. The magnetic patches, often used in conjunction with Kevlar reinforced flexible patches, create a durable water tight seal where ships’ hulls have been damaged by collision or grounding. Miko also produces high-power permanent magnets that can be used in conjunction with the patches.

Miko Marine has developed a new carrying case for the convenient transport and storage of its high power anchor magnets. Manufactured from special high density polypropylene the new case is water and dust proof and contains an inner storage compartment that shields and isolates the magnet from its surroundings. The Norwegian Coastal Administration (Kystverket) has signed a contract with Miko Marine AS to become the first national agency to purchase the ShipArrestor system. The two packages ordered are due for delivery this summer and feature sea anchors that can be deployed on ships by helicopter. The systems will help protect Norway’s coastline against the pollution and other hazards caused when ships lose engine power and drift before running aground. By dramatically slowing the ship’s rate of drift, the ShipArrestor creates more time in which it can be reached by a rescue tug.

The Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA) renewed its service agreement with Miko Marine for the emergency provision of magnetic and fabric patches for damaged vessels. Under the new 2013 agreement, Oslo-based Miko Marine undertakes to provide 24-hour technical support for the use of the company’s unique range of patches and for their provision whenever necessary. The Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA) has placed a significant order with Miko Marine AS of Oslo, for the supply of Salvage and Tanker kits of its unique magnetic patches. The kits will be carried aboard all five of the NCA Emergency Towing Vessels (ETV) which are stationed around the coast of Norway. The ETVs will have the patches available for making emergency repairs to vessels with damage or hull integrity problems as may have been caused by collision or grounding or by defective valves and seals.

The ShipArrestor system invented by Miko Marine AS of Oslo has been chosen as one of 50 exhibits at the first European Innovation Convention being held in Brussels on 5-6 December. The ShipArrestor was chosen from among 1200 projects funded by the European Union as it may be used to defend coastlines against the huge environmental damage that can be caused when a drifting oil tanker runs aground. It has been confirmed that the rapid availability of magnetic patches from Miko Marine AS ensured the speedy closure of sea chests during pumping operations to save the cruise ship Nordlys. The emergency salvage work took place on 15 September in the Norwegian port of Ålesund after an engine room explosion at sea caused hull damage that resulted in two fatalities. The subsequent fire led to the rapid evacuation of the ship’s 207 passengers and 55 crew from the Hurtigruten-operated cruise ship which was towed to port.
