Currently the trading name for Milford Haven Port Authority, MHSR, is to be rebranded under the Mustang Marine (Wales) Ltd name and will operate from the existing two sites, the dry dock facility at Milford Dock and the slipway facility adjacent to Mustang Marine in Pembroke Dock. Mustang Marine, is a boat builder and repairer of workboats, pilot boats, passenger and similar commercial vessels up to 40m in length. Established in 1984 by the Lewis family, the company has witnessed steady growth specifically in the last 5 years.

Seattle - The pilot boat Connor Foss is currently under construction at the Foss Maritime Company's Shipyard in Rainier, Oregon, and will replace the Arrow 2 in June, 2012. The Arrow 2 will be taken out of service after fifty years transporting River and Bar pilots on the Columbia River at Astoria, Oregon. The Arrow 2 began service on the Columbia River in 1962. The steel hull launch boat with a single 700 horsepower engine has made thousands of pilot transfers in its long career. "It's just time to upgrade our equipment," said Foss project manager Dan Cole.

Milford Haven Port Authority has begun a trial of advanced C-Vu 3-dimensional VTS display software from GeoVS. The system has been installed to establish whether its clarity of presentation and viewing versatility can enhance situation awareness and ease of interpretation for the port’s vessel traffic controllers. The technology is unique in that it transforms a traditional two dimensional radar display into a three dimensional panorama in which, instead of appearing as featureless radar targets, vessels on the display appear as they really are.

On the night of Thursday, February 15, 1996, shortly after 8pm the 147,000-ton supertanker Sea Empress had begun the final stages of its three-day voyage from Grangemouth, at the mouth of the River Forth, to Milford Haven docks and the Texaco refinery. As it was being piloted into port, the tanker, carrying a full cargo of North Sea light crude, ran aground on rocks in Mill Bay, just off St Ann’s Head, rupturing its oil tanks. The U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has released its 2001 survey of reported discharges attributed to vessels and Offshore Oil and Gas Installations operating in the United Kingdom pollution control zone. This report compiled annually by the Advisory Committee on Protection of the Sea (ACOPS) has shown that both the number of incidents of pollution from vessels has reduced as has the amount of oil released into the sea. · 678 accidental or deliberate polluting discharges were identified from vessels and offshore installations operating in the United Kingdom Pollution Control Zone and national waters. This is a reduction of 8.7% over the previous year’s total of 743 discharges. · Offshore oil & gas installations were identified as the source of 71% of the confirmed discharges.

Britain's record fine for pollution, imposed on a port authority after a crude tanker ran aground in 1996, was slashed by the Court of Appeal. After a one-day hearing of the case the court cut the fine on Milford Haven Port Authority to 750,000 pounds ($1.18 million) from the original four million pounds. The Port Authority had appealed against the size of the fine -- imposed because of the way it handled the Sea Empress tanker disaster. The vessel ran aground in the approaches to Milford Haven in February 1996, while carrying a cargo of 130,000 tons of crude oil to a Texaco Inc refinery.
