Great Lakes Beaches: EPA Satellite Data Contract

US EPA awards Blue Water Satellite contract to providie satellite data for an epidemiological study of 4 beaches. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded a contract to Blue Water Satellite of Bowling Green, OH to provide unique historical data regarding the concentrations of potentially harmful Cyanobacteria, Chlorophyll-a, and Phosphorus at four Great Lakes beaches. This historical data will be used as part of an epidemiological study to potentially correlate concentrations of various biological constituents with human health effects.

AmNav Announces Innovative New Tug Series

AmNav Maritime Services of San Francisco, Calif., is set to take delivery of the first in a new series of technologically advanced 5,000 to 7,000 hp Azmuthing Stern Drive (ASD) ship assist tugs to be built by Halter Marine, Inc. of Gulfport, Miss. Merritt added, "the 'Enhanced ASD Thruster Tugs' design integrates a wide beam and forward skeg hull form, ASD propulsion units, high performance engines, remotely controlled winches and an automated wheelhouse command system to meet the challenging demands of efficient, safe, and environmentally responsible ship handling requirements of today's modern ports and terminal facilities. "The first 'Enhanced ASD Thruster Tug,' scheduled for delivery in May, 2001, will be 6,250 horse power with principle hull dimensions of 98 ft. in length, 40 ft.

New Water Taxi to Connect for Old Town Alexandria

National Harbor, the mile-and-a-quarter-long waterfront development under construction just south of the Wilson Bridge in Prince George's County. Riverboat Company and Milt Peterson, founder and chairman of Washington, D.C.-area developer, The Peterson Companies, which is developing the mixed-use project, announced today that the Potomac Riverboat Company will begin seven-day-a-week water taxi service between the two riverside destinations in April 2008. Two newly-commissioned 99-passenger boats, which are yet-to-be named, will run initially on the half-hour between 10 A.M. and 10 P.M., providing 50 one- way trips daily between the Alexandria City Marina and the Commercial North Pier at National Harbor. The crossing is expected to take 20 minutes.

News: Seacor Takes New Supply Boat from Bollinger

Seacor Madison, the first of three 207-ft., 4,750 bhp supply boats, was delivered to Seacor Marine, Inc., from Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. This delivery will be followed by two others of Seacor's new President Class offshore support vessels (OSV), the Seacor Washington and Seacor Jefferson. The boats are part of Bollinger's new 220 Class OSVs, vessels designed to raise versatility and cargo carrying capacity, while lowering operating costs. Bollinger's COO explains. "For example, the Seacor Madison can carry 6,223 barrels of liquid mud and has 6,000 cu. Ft. of storage for dry bulk mud," said Mike Ellis, chief operating officer of Bollinger. "Combine these capacities usually found in OSVs from 220-240 ft. with the lower operating costs of a 207-ft.

Bollinger Shipyards Lockport, La., has delivered the Seacor Madison, the first of three 207-ft., 4750 BHP supply boats to Seacor Marine, Inc., Houston, Tex. It will be followed by two others of Seacor’s new President Class offshore support vessels (OSV), the SEACOR WASHINGTON and SEACOR JEFFERSON. The boats are part of Bollinger’s new 220 Class OSVs that are designed to provide more cargo capacities, more versatility, more options and lower operating costs than larger vessels. “For example,” said Mike Ellis, chief operating officer of Bollinger, “the SEACOR MADISON can carry 6,223 barrels of liquid mud and has 6,000 cubic feet of storage for dry bulk mud.
