India to Import LNG from Australia

India may contract long-term supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Australia if price is comparable to Indian coal which remains the fuel of choice for power generation companies in New Delhi. Power Minister Piyush Goyal, who is currently on a visit to Australia for energy dialogue, conveyed India’s willingness to buy Australian LNG during a roundtable in Brisbane. Goyal stated that additionally, opportunities to control the entire value chain right from gas production, liquefaction, shipping, re-gasification and power generation can be evaluated at the current historic low prices of many of these activities. Petronet LNG appoints new chairman

India’s largest importer of the chilled gas Petronet LNG has appointed Kapil Dev Tripathi, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural gas as Chairman and Director on the Board of the company. The appointment follows the former Chairman and Director of the company Board, Saurabh Chandra’s resignation on May 6. Further the Company has informed that, Eric Ebelin has been appointed as Alternate Director to Philip Olivier. In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange the company informed “Kapil Dev Tripathi Secretary Ministry of Petroleum and Natural gas Government of India has been appointed as Chairman and Director on the Board of the Company w.e.f.

Fire at Tatipaka-Lanco Pipeline of GAIL in K.G. Basin

A fire broke out early today along a natural gas pipeline of GAIL (India) Limited at Tatipaka in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Fifteen casualties have happened and eighteen injured are being treated in four hospitals in the vicinity. The fire started at around 5:45 AM today along the Tatipaka – Lanco natural gas pipeline, approximately 50 metres from ONGC’s Tatipaka terminal and about 500 metres from the GAIL terminal. GAIL’s Crisis Management system was invoked immediately; about eight fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was brought under control at around 7:00 AM. Preliminary reports suggest damage to a 1.5 metres length of the pipeline. The exact cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained.
