Vietnam has arrested a former chairman of state-owned Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC) for alleged abuse of power, police said on Friday, as the Southeast Asian nation cracks down on graft. A spate of high-profile arrests has shed light on graft, mismanagement and nepotism in state firms at a time of accelerating privatization, while spotlighting the ascendancy of a more conservative faction in the ruling Communist Party. Vietnam Arrests Four Former Vinashin Officials

According to a September 5 report from Bloomberg, Vietnamese police arrested four former officials of Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group, known as Vinashin, as the government extended its investigation into financial difficulties at the state-owned company. The people arrested on Sept. 3 include two former board members, Tran Quang Vu and Tran Van Liem, and ex-general directors of two of Vinashin’s subsidiaries, Nguyen Van Tuyen and Nguyen Tuan Duong, according to a statement from the Ministry of Public Security. USCG Cutter Makes Port Call to China

The Honolulu-based U.S. Coast Guard cutter Rush arrived in east China's coastal city of Qingdao on Sunday afternoon, kicking off a five-day visit at the invitation of China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS). Rush is the first major Coast Guard vessel to visit China since World War II, according to Capt. Dana Ware, commanding officer of Rush. The ship and its crew were welcomed by Chinese counterparts and local people upon its arrival at the Qingdao Pier.
