MHI Nuclear Engineering Training in Vietnam

On December 5, a ceremony was held at Electric Power University (EPU) in Hanoi, Vietnam, to mark the start of the fourth year Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) is providing instruction in nuclear engineering at this educational institution. The ceremony was attended by numerous guests and dignitaries, including: Nguyen Cuong Lam, Vice President of Vietnam Electricity (EVN); representatives from Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Education and Training; and Mr. Michio Daito, Counselor at the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam. Representing EPU was President Dam Xuan Hiep, while MHI was represented by Masato Iida, General Manager of the Nuclear Energy Systems Division, Energy & Environment Domain.

MHI Endowing Courses in Nuclear Engineering at Hanoi University

A ceremony was held today at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), in Hanoi, Vietnam, to mark the commencement of the fifth year of courses endowed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI). The courses are conducted at the university's School of Nuclear Engineering and Environmental Physics. China to Build 4,500m Manned Submersible

According to Xinhua, Chinese scientists launched a program to build a new manned submersible expected to dive as deep as 4,500mand capable of carrying out scientific research. The program was revealed by Hu Zhen with China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, who is in charge of the technology development of the submersible program under the Ministry of Science and Technology, in an interview on board the Xiangyanghong 09, carrier boat of the Jiaolong submersible. According to the news agency, Jiaolong has dived successfully to a depth of 7,062m. According to the report the Jiaolong will soon be handed over to the China Ocean Mineral Resources Research and Development Association, and at that time study will focus on key technologies involved in the 4,500-m submersible.

EU and China Set to Collaborate on GALILEO

An agreement has been reached between the European Union and China on its participation in the GALILEO program. This agreement was initialled in Beijing on September 18 by F. Lamoureux, Director-General of Energy and Transport at the European Commission, and M Shi Dinghuan, Secretary General of China's Ministry of Science and Technology. “China will help GALILEO to become the major world infrastructure for the growing market for location services,” said Loyola de Palacio, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for the GALILEO programme. Her counterpart in the negotiations, China's Science and Technology Minister Xu Guanhua highlighted that “China supports GALILEO and plans to participate actively in its construction and application for mutual benefits”.
