Maryland-headquartered heavy civil and marine contractor McLean Contracting Company announced it has acquired South Carolina-based Shugart Manufacturing, designer and builder of sectional barges, barge propulsion units and accessories, screeds, barge ramps, bridge steel, concrete forms, and other miscellaneous equipment and materials for marine and construction use.The asset purchase agreement is effective as of December 30, 2021.Prior Shugart owner and president Donnie Wilks will stay on with McLean to direct the division.

Drydocks World announced the completion and delivery of Eagle Louisiana, the second of two Modular Capture Vessels (MCV) for the U.S. The first MCV, Eagle Texas, sailed away from Drydocks World’s yard in August last year. The vessels are the world’s first MCVs. Drydocks World converted the AFRAmax tanker for AET, a global leader in petroleum shipping, which has a 20-year agreement with Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC) for the operation of the MCVs. International service provider Drydocks World announced that the world’s first Modular Capture Vessel (MCV), Eagle Texas, sailed away from its yard. Building on its initial success in the renewable energy market, Austal has confirmed a contract for a fourth wind farm support vessel for Turbine Transfers Limited. The order is the first for a new Austal design which will enable safer and more efficient offshore wind turbine service. Welcoming the follow-up order from the UK-based company, Austal Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Bellamy, said the shipbuilder had continued to refine and enhance its Wind Express vessel range following its launch in mid-2010 as part of a strategy to pursue new commercial vessel markets.

Drydocks World, the well established ship repair, conversion and new building Group announced today that it has signed a contract with Mumbai-India based construction group, Afcons Infrastructure to provide detail engineering, procurement, construction and delivery of a Self Elevating Platform AF SEP Samrat. The 45metre long flat bottom pontoon barge, which will be built at the Dubai facility, can be jacked up with four spuds and a jacking system with an elevated weight of 2928 tonnes approximately.

The Australian Transport Council (ATC) of Ministers this month approved the new national safety standard for navigation equipment. The National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part C, Subsection 7C – Navigation Equipment replaces those parts of USL Code Section 13; Miscellaneous Equipment, pertaining to navigation equipment. The National Marine Safety Committee (NMSC) technical team developed the standard in consultation with the marine industry over a two-year period, often covering innovative equipment introduced since the last update of the USL Code in 1984. NMSC’s Acting CEO John Henry noted that much has changed in the field of electronic navigation equipment since the USL Code was published.

Bisso Marine Company, Inc., in New Orleans, has successfully completed the salvage of the 1,200 ton Gantry Ship Unloader from the Mississippi River at the IC Railmarine Terminal, Convent, La. The crane collapsed from the dock during testing procedures last June. Bisso cut the unloader into three main sections, utilizing shape charge type explosives. The sections were lifted by Bisso Marine derricks and transported to a secure lay down area on the batture behind the dock for forensic investigation. The 90 ton trolley, test weights, counterweights and other miscellaneous equipment from the crane were recovered from 80 to 135 ft. water depths by Bisso Marine divers and equipment.
