KVH, Intelsat Ink Three-year SatCom Renewal

KVH Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: KVHI), announced the completion of a three-year renewal of its satellite services contract with Intelsat. The renewal includes increased network capacity, the flexibility to support future bandwidth adjustments, and reduced service costs.“We are thrilled to extend our long-standing relationship with Intelsat, which began in 2017 when KVH proudly became the launch partner for Intelsat’s FlexMaritime network,” said Brent Bruun, KVH’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “More than 7,100 commercial, leisure, and military vessels worldwide rely on KVH and Intelsat’s FlexMaritime high-throughput satellites (HTS) to deliver connectivity, content, cybersecurity, and additional critical services.

Wärtsilä Sells Pumps Business to Solix Group

Finnish technology group Wärtsilä has divested its pumps business to Solix Group, a Scandinavian investment company with offices in Copenhagen, Denmark and Malmö, Sweden.According to a press release from the marine technology giant, Wärtsilä Pumps has belonged to the Wärtsilä Marine Solutions organisation and became part of the company along with the acquisition of Hamworthy in 2012. The Wärtsilä Pumps business recorded sales of approximately 50 MEUR in 2017.The divestment will enable Wärtsilä to devote greater focus to its Smart Marine vision. This is based on the rapid introduction of new technologies, which are creating unprecedented levels of efficiency and cost savings.

Speedcast, Danaos Partner on Maritime Digitalization

Speedcast International Limited, the provider of remote communication and IT solutions, and Danaos Peripherals announced a strategic alliance agreement under which the two companies will combine maritime communications with advanced application management developed by Danaos. Within 2017, the two companies will jointly release a remote and autonomous IT system on board a vessel, leveraging key technologies such as big data analytics, internet of things (IoT) and cyber security. Eastern Selects MAN Engines for OPC

The US Coast Guard will have MAN’s 28/33D STC engines installed as the main propulsion for its new Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) programme. The programme is the replacement platform for the 13 ‘Famous’ class and 14 ‘Reliance’ class cutter vessels, making the order the largest vessel procurement order in the Coast Guard’s history. Orbit to Supply VSAT Systems to Asian Navy

ORBIT Communication Systems Ltd., a  provider of mission-critical communication solutions for land, sea and air platforms, has received an order to supply its new OceanTRx4 maritime satellite communication systems to an Asian Navy. The  undisclosed Asian customer has been operating ORBIT’s previous-generation OrSat maritime VSAT systems for the past five years, says a press note from the company. The 1.15m VSAT antenna system aims to support multi-band frequency configurations including X, Ku and Ka bands, as well as a range of BUC power levels. Featuring inherent field upgradeability, improved RF performance and dynamic response under virtually any sea conditions, the OceanTRx4 supports a broad range of mission-critical applications.

Honing Skill Of Seafarers Using SATCOM

Maritime operational effectiveness is to be enhanced globally through the provision of training and certification for seafarers assigned to use advanced satellite communication systems on-board commercial vessels. The initiative, which has been tailored for maritime professionals serving on thousands of commercial vessels at sea, is being led by Seagull Maritime, a Norwegian provider of seafarer training, and GVF, the London-based international association of the satellite communications industry. “Ship owners and managers depend daily upon broadband satellite communications for mission-critical applications”, said Roger Ringstad, Master Mariner and Managing Director of Seagull Maritime.

dB Control Get Five-year Naval Contract

dB Control awarded $3.3M, five-year contract to supply high-power products to U.S. dB Control Corp., manufacturer of high-power microwave amplifiers, radar/electronic countermeasure (ECM) transmitters, and high- and low-voltage power supplies, has been awarded a contract worth an estimated $3.3 million by the U.S. Navy to produce high-power products and services . The contract is an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) with one base year and four option years. “Having provided the U.S. Government products and services for over two decades, we’ve earned our reputation as a reliable supplier for their mission-critical applications,” said dB Control Marketing Manager Steven Olson.

Marine Panel Mount Computer Passes Shock Testing

Comark Corporation announced that its 12-inch Marine Panel Mount Display with integrated Computer and Touchscreen options has successfully passed the MIL-901D Grade A lightweight shock test. Testing was conducted at Sypris Test & Measurement Labs in Wayne, N.J. and consisted of multiple hits from a 400 lb hammer, dropped from a height of one ft, three ft, and five ft in three axis. The MDU12PC is available with both standard brightness and sunlight readable versions, up to 1000 NITs. Other features include a touchscreen interface, Core 2 Duo processing and multiple storage options.

Albacora Deploys Stratos FleetBroadband

Stratos Global Corporation, global provider of advanced mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions, has successfully completed an Inmarsat FleetBroadband field trial with Spain’s Albacora Group. The three-month field trial was conducted onboard the Albacora tuna fishing vessel Albatun Dos in the Indian Ocean. Stratos channel partner Satlink managed the installation of a FleetBroadband 250 terminal manufactured by JRC, which was integrated with the vessel’s local-area network. The successful trial led to Albacora Group retaining the FleetBroadband from Stratos system, which it will use to manage the Albatun Dos’ daily operations at sea.

Stratos Global Reports Fourth Quarter Results

Stratos Global Corporation announced its financial results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2001. The Corporation is reporting revenue for the fourth quarter of US $80 million, representing growth of $46 million over $34 million for the fourth quarter last year. For the year, revenues were $289 million, up $171 million over 2000. Gross margins as a percentage of revenues improved from 32 percent last year to 37 percent in 2001. Operating income before interest expense, income taxes, depreciation and amortization and transition and other costs ("EBITDA")1 was $19.2 million for the quarter and $62.9 for the year. This represents an increase of $14.2 million over the same quarter last year and an increase of $54.3 million over last year.

STG Wins $9.5 Million USCG Contract

STG, Inc. (STG) announced that it has won a five-year, $9.5m award from the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Operations Systems Center (OSC). Under this contract, STG will provide Help Desk Support Services for proprietary software products used by the Coast Guard for its varied missions. The OSC develops, maintains, fields and supports most USCG-unique operational applications that directly support USCG’s mission. The Customer Support Division (CSD) directly supports more than 25 of these systems and acts as a single point of contact for support on all OSC systems.
