HMS Prince of Wales Powers Ahead

The second MT30 Gas Turbine Alternator (GTA) has been installed into the U.K. Royal Navy’s latest aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, at Rosyth, the Aircraft Carrier Alliance reported. ‪Generating 36 megawatts (around 50,000 horsepower), the power-dense Rolls-Royce MT30 marine gas turbine is key for naval ships where high power occupying minimum space is essential.‬ Each 120-metric-ton GTA package consists of a GE supplied alternator coupled to a Rolls-Royce supplied MT30 Gas Turbine contained within an enclosure.

The Aircraft Carrier Alliance has completed the installation of the first MT30 Gas Turbine Alternator (GTA) package into the Royal Navy’s latest aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, at Babcock’s Rosyth shipyard in Scotland. The Rolls-Royce MT30 is a 36 megawatt (around 50,000 horsepower) Marine Gas Turbine. Each 120-metric-ton GTA package consists of a GE supplied alternator coupled to a Rolls-Royce supplied MT30 Gas Turbine contained within an enclosure. Raytheon Zumwalt-class Destroyer Software Development Program

Raytheon Company deliver more than 6-million lines of software to the U.S. Navy for the DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class destroyer program. New Navy Contracts

Raytheon Co., Integrated Defense Systems, Tewksbury , Mass., is being awarded a $10,118,046 modification to previously awarded contract for the non-recurring engineering effort of Zumwalt-class destroyer mission systems equipment to design, procure, and install the test assets and infrastructure material to support the integration, testing, and facilitation of Mission Systems Equipment. Work will be performed in Burlington, Mass. (75 precent) and Tewksbury, Mass. (25 precent), and is expected to be completed by Sept. 2009. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity (N00024-05-C-5346).

New Navy Contract

Raytheon Co., Integrated Defense Systems, Tewksbury , Mass., is being awarded an $8,976,435 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-05-C-5346) for the non-recurring engineering effort to update selected Zumwalt Class Destroyer Mission Systems Equipment for initial integration efforts at Wallops Island, Va., and follow-on installation on board Navy's Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS) to mitigate production and integration risk and conduct at sea testing in support of the Zumwalt TEMP (test and evaluation master plan). The SDTS test will include the first missile firing with this advanced Mission System from a remote controlled shipagainst the most stressing targets available.

Raytheon Delivers Early

Raytheon Selects IBM for Navy Contract

IBM Corp. was selected by defense firm Raytheon Co. to assist in designing an upgraded software system for at least one U.S. Navy Zumwalt destroyer. Waltham, Mass.-based Raytheon received a $3 billion contract from the Navy to design mission systems equipment for two destroyer ships. The equipment acts as the brains of the ship, sensing incoming missiles, sending signals and controlling radar systems.
