Mitsubishi Unveils New Marine Propulsion Engine

Mitsubishi Turbocharger and Engine America (MTEA) has introduced Mitsubishi’s new mechanical controlled, EPA Tier 4, 1,260-horsepower heavy-duty marine propulsion engine.The Mitsubishi S12R Tier 4 is a 49-liter, V-12, 1,260-horsepower marine propulsion engine operating at 1,600 rpm. While the engine offers simple mechanical controls and big displacement, it utilizes SCR technology in meeting the NOx Tier 4 emission requirements. Mitsubishi Names New US West Coast Distributor

New Push Boat Delivered to Devall Towing

The newly built M/V Jackson Scott has been delivered to owner Devall Towing and Boat Service of Hackberry, La. The Jackson Scott is a 64’ X 27’ inland push boat, powered by two fully mechanical, EPA Tier 3 engines rated 630HP @ 1,600RPM. The engines are coupled to Twin Disc MG 5222 transmissions turning four-blade 70” X 56” propellers. The M/V Jackson Scott follows four previous Devall Towboats with the same propulsion package from Laborde Products. Earlier vessels included the M/V Tug Devall, M/V Cooper Devall, M/V Aidan Devall and M/V Finili Ryanne.

Tradewinds Towing Returns to Laborde for Repowers

In September of 2006, Dominique Smith of the then one tug company Tradewinds Towing came to Laborde Products, to look at the S12R engine for the repower of the Miss Lis, an Alaskan built low profile tug he planned on repowering. Later that same month, the deal was made, and shortly thereafter, the Miss Lis set sail with new Mitsubishi engines and Reintjes transmissions supplied by Laborde Products. Since then, the engines have logged over 30,000 hours travelling throughout North, Central and South America.

DBR Container Gensets for Jan De Nul Vessel

DBR are currently putting together a 40 foot DNV 2.7-1 container generator set for a vessel owned by Jan De Nul Group. After delivery in Q3 2015, the customized generator set will be put into action on offshore trenching operations. DBR will divide the standard container into three separate compartments – to hold the generator, switchboard and radiator components respectively. Repowered Tug Tows 7 Weeks Nonstop

When business depends on commercial vessels, it's essential for these boats to stay in good condition. Unreliable engines and equipment can lead to days or weeks off the water for repairs, resulting in lost customers. To ensure its fleet is always prepared for the job, Smith Maritime depends on Laborde Products. For its third repower with Smith Maritime, Laborde supplied three Mitsubishi S12R-Y2MPTK Tier II engines rated at 5,000 hp for the tug Rhea. For its maiden voyage, Rhea towed a huge piece of oilfield equipment from Texas to Cape Verde Islands off of Africa before moving on to Nigeria.

Laborde Chosen as Vapor Power Distributor

Laborde Products was selected as Vapor Power International Marine Distributor for the North American marine markets. The announcement was made at the 2013 International WorkBoat Show. "The Vapor Power heaters really complement our growing position in the inland tank barge industry," said Doug Oehrlein, Laborde Products' VP sales & marketing. Laborde Repowers RO RO Cargo Carriers

The on-time delivery of freight is something businesses depend on to be successful. That's why Laborde Products recently put a second pair of Mitsubishi engines in service in Nassau, Bahamas for the Ro Ro Company. This company carries cargo throughout the Bahamas and Caribbean. The first boat repowered was the 165' KCT, which has a pair of Mitsubishi S6R-Y2MPTK engines rated 630 hp at 1,600 rpm installed. The second vessel, the 190' Vi-Nais, has a pair of S6R2-MPTK2 engines rated 927 hp at 1,400 rpm installed.

Laborde Increases Sales

Meeting the needs of its customers who demand mechanical engines, Laborde Products continues to gain market share with its Mitsubishi Tier 3 engines. The company has already started taking orders for new construction pushboats to be constructed in late 2012 and 2013, without any signs of slowing down. "We're not surprised by how receptive the commercial marine market has been to these new engines. We listened to our customers, who clearly told us they wanted fully mechanical, Tier 3 engines and that's what we've provided," said Doug Oehrlein, Laborde Products COO.

MHI Completes Full-scale Marine Diesel Testing Facility

(MHI) has completed "4UE-X3," a testing facility for full-scale low-speed, 2-stroke marine diesel engines, in the company's Kobe Shipyard and Machinery Works in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. LaBorde Repowers Inland Waterway Pushboat

When it was time to repower one of its commercial vessels, Plant Recovery Company (PRC) turned to Laborde Products. PRC's M/V Victoria is a pushboat used for transporting barges through inland waterways. Laborde installed Mitsubishi S12R-Y1MPTA engines, rated 1,180 hp at 1,600 rpm. It also installed Twin Disc  MG 540 transmissions and new RW Fernstrum grid coolers. "I talked to people that had Mitsubishi engines and they were all happy," said Marc Atkins of PRC. McKinney Chooses Mitsubishi

For more than 40 years, McKinney Companies has served the Gulf petroleum and dry cargo industries from its headquarters on the Mississippi River and Intracoastal Waterway. The latest addition to the towing fleet is the shiny new Mac Andrew McKinney. To power the push boat, they turned to Laborde Products to supply an S12A2 Mitsubishi engine rated 940 hp at 1,940 rpm. "We wanted a Tier II diesel engine with hydraulic governor," said Andy McKinney, VP of operations. "We also preferred to avoid the hassle of complex computers and electronics, so we chose a low-maintenance all-mechanical model.

Laborde Expands Sales & Service Network

Laborde Products added National Maintenance and Repair as a service and sales dealer. It supports the river and rail industries with facilities in Hartford, Illinois; Paducah, Kentucky; and Harahan, Louisiana. National Maintenance and Repair will provide sales and support for Laborde Products' Mitsubishi marine propulsion engines in all three locations. It will also provide sales and service for Laborde's packaged product division, Diesel America. Offering a wide range of diesel-powered equipment, including pumps, generators, pressure washers, barge pumps and other special diesel equipment, the line is powered with FPT (Fiat Powertrain Technologies), Yanmar, Mitsubishi and other quality products distributed by Laborde.
