China’s Shipyards Operating at Full Capacity
The major shipyards in China are operating at full capacity, resulting in potential order backlogs, reports China Daily.The value of China's ship exports rose by over 21% year-on-year to $8.86 billion in the January-May period, according to China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry data. Orders rose by 50% over that time, giving China a 67% world share.Orders have included container ships, bulk carriers, LNG carriers, vehicle carriers and offshore vessels. FSG Delivers New Ro-Ro for SIEM
German shipbuilding company Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) has handed over another Ro-Ro ship to SIEM Shipping.The Flensburg-based designer and manufacturer of ships for commercial and naval applications worldwide said in a press release that this is the sixth RoRo ship that FSG has delivered to SIEM and is identical in construction to the sister ship “ALF POLLK”.The “MARIA GRAZIA ONORATO” will be chartered out to Moby Lines Europe and deployed in the Mediterranean area on the routes to and from Sardinia and Sicily.Together with its sister ship “ALF POLLAK”, this will be amongst the newest and most modern RoRo ferries in the Mediterranean area…
New Ferry Safety Initiative from RINA
Italy-based classification society RINA informs it has launched a ferry safety initiative. The Asset Integrity Management scheme for ro-pax ferries covers fire risk mitigation, single-failure risk assessment, enhanced planned maintenance and condition-based monitoring and also food and bacteriological risk management. Paolo Moretti, General Manager Marine, RINA Services, said, “With over 300 ferries in our class we are the world leaders in ro-pax ferry safety. That gives us two things. One is a lot of experience and feedback from vessels in service, the other is a sense of responsibility.
S. Korea Eyes Cruise Building Market
