Metal Shark Eyes Law Enforcement Market Growth

Tugboat Roundup Cancelled in Waterford

Event Was Scheduled for Sept. 9-11. The annual Tugboat Roundup scheduled for Sept. 9-11, 2011, at the Waterford Harbor on the Erie Canal has been cancelled because of the impacts from Tropical Storm Irene. High waters and flood damage have hampered navigation along the New York State Canal system. The Hudson River also has high waters. The Erie Canal remains closed to navigation between Lock 2 in Waterford, Saratoga County, and Lock 19 in Frankfort, Montgomery County. The Champlain Canal remains closed for its entire length. No date has been established on when these canal sections might re-open. Carderock Hosts STEM Teachers

Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD), a field activity of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), was host to a first of its kind weeklong summer institute for high school science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) teachers, June 28 - July 2, at the West Bethesda installation. "The goal of the institute is to expose teachers to the real-world of engineering so that they can bring relevance to the material they are teaching their students," said Toby Ratcliffe, NSWCCD's outreach coordinator and event hostess. For the initial summer institute, high school teachers from Maryland's Montgomery County and the District of Columbia were invited to Carderock to get a tour of the facilities in which the scientists and engineers work…

Ferry’s Certificate of Inspection Revoked

The Coast Guard is urging Virginia and Maryland users of White's Ferry in Montgomery County to seek alternate travel routes after the Ferry's Certificate of Inspection was revoked due to vessel safety concerns. The vessel will be closed to all passenger service pending a Coast Guard investigation.
