IWAI Signs MoUs Dredging Corporation

Development of Inland Water Transport is a priority of the Ministry of Shipping. After the declaration of 106 new National Waterways, in addition to the existing 5 National Waterways, under the National Waterways Act, 2016, the responsibilities of Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) have increased manifold. To ensure the development of the National Waterways in a time-bound and effective manner, the IWAI in the presence of Nitin Gadkari , Hon`ble Minister of Shipping and Road Transport & Highways has signed three separate Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dredging Corporation of India (DCI), Paradip Port Trust (PPT) and Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) on Wednesday, 28th September 2016.

Vedanta to Re-develop Mormugao Port

Vedanta Limited, India’s only diversified natural resources company today received the ‘Letter of Award’ for Redevelopment of Berth No.8, 9 and Barge Berths at Port of Mormugao, Goa (‘Project’) on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) Basis. It was handed over to Vedanta’s Iron Ore business CEO, Mr. Kishore Kumar by I.Jeyakumar, Chairman – Mormugao Port Trust in the presence of Road, Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Mr. Nitin Gadkari at the Maritime India Summit (MIS), 2016 being held at Mumbai. Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Mr. Kishore Kumar stated, “We are excited about the project and the opportunity to partner with the Government of India.

India to Focus on Coastal Shipping

The Indian ministry of shipping unveiled its vision document for Coastal Shipping, Tourism and Regional Development on Monday at Dona Paula, Goa at the 16th meeting of Maritime States Development Council (MSDC), reports Times of India. The government will encourage Indian ship owners and operators to acquire roll-on-roll-off vessels, passenger ferries, car and truck ferries and cargo carriers. This is one of the key points that the central ministry of shipping has mentioned in its vision document for coastal shipping, tourism and regional development. The document that seeks to ensure that the maritime sector contributes to the country's GDP was released by union minister of shipping, road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari, who also chaired the meeting.

Draft Increase at Mormugao Port
