Cammell Laird Launches Claire House Charity Kite Boat

Merseyside shipyard and engineering company Cammell Laird held a special ceremony to launch a unique kite boat designed to raise funds for charity Claire House Childrenā€™s Hospice. The ā€˜CL Challengerā€™ was designed by retired shipyard naval architect Bill Owen incorporating a kite as the main power source to propel the vessel. The eco-friendly vessel also generates electric power for radio, lights and GPS through batteries charged via solar panel. It will now be used by a team of intrepid kite surfers for a range of sea-faring challenges to raise vital cash for the Bebington childrenā€™s charity.

MPE Interiors Complete OSV Outfitting

Liverpool (Birkenhead) UK-based maritime sector contractor MPE Interiors says it has completed an outfitting contract for North East shipyard operator UK Docks, aboard the offshore support vessel 'Ocean Tay'. MPE carried out the refurbishment works at  Wear Dock & Engineering in Sunderland as part of a conversion to the Ocean Tay, a 63-m (207-ft) Class A Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel (ERRV), operated by Atlantic Offshore Rescue Ltd. MPE director Cliff Grainger said it delivered a broad range of services on the conversion: "We were delighted to assist UK docks on this conversion. IPS Completes Insulation and Fabrication Contracts

Birkenhead  based engineering firm IPS Marine Fabrications has completed a series of contracts for three ship operators. IPS director Paul Smith said the contracts with Whitaker Tankers, and ferry operators Seatruck and Stena showcased the broad range of fabrication and insulation skills IPS can provide. ā€œThe job spec of these contracts was really varied and shows how we can save customers time and money,ā€ he said. ā€œFor Seatruck we supplied high temperature ceramic fiber insulation for the main engine exhausts.

MPE Helps on Stena Ferry Interior Refit

MPE Interiors has completed a contract for ferry operator Stena Line to deliver an extensive fit out on the Stena Adventurer vessel. MPE carried out the refurbishment works at the forward end of passenger decks seven and eight on the vessel which operates between Holyhead, on Anglesey, and Dublin Port. "This is another great project for MPE Interiors to win and continues our long standing relationship with Stena Line," said Cliff Grainger, MPE director. "The job follows similar works which we completed on the Stena Mersey and Stena Lagan over the summer. "On this job we have worked on the ā€˜Stena Plus Loungeā€™ on Deck eight. This includes installing new seating for extra comfort and creating a more spacious lounge and dining area with a media room and quiet area.

MPE Refurbises Stena Line Ferries

Birkenhead-based outfitter and manufacturer MPE Interiors has completed two contacts for Stena Line to redevelop the crew and officers' mess areas on two ferries. The contracts involved replacing the mess rooms on the 980-passenger ferries the Stena Mersey and the Stena Lagan at Twelve Quays in Birkenhead. Both ships operate the Birkenhead-Belfast route. MPE director Cliff Grainger said, ā€œWe can offer the complete outfitting solution from detailed concept design, to manufacture of furniture and structures to installation and maintenance.
