Visualization of dredging is essential to gain insight into the dredging process. But this is only the beginning of the whole dredging story. To complete that story, we meet with Diederik van Halsema of DC Dredging. He is the fleet manager of the entire DC Dredging fleet, including the vessels DC Ostend, Margaret Ann and Rio. These vessels have a lot of things in common, including MSA-Service's VisuDREDGE dredge visualization system, which is installed on each of these three vessels.

The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) has selected a team of naval architecture and engineering firms to design its new state-of-the-art research vessel. The design team, led by U.S.-based Glosten, includes One2three Naval Architects from Sydney and Maritime Survey Australia (MSA) from Melbourne.The new vessel will be bigger and more capable than its predecessor, with a larger working deck, room for more scientists on board, and the ability to act as a multi-technology and sensor platform, coordinating a range of autonomous systems.

Setting out to increase fairness, equality and inclusion within the maritime sector, Maritime UK has established a Women in Maritime Taskforce, a move welcomed by the U.K.’s new Maritime Minister, Nusrat Ghani MP. “I am delighted to see Maritime UK taking action to attract more women into our maritime industries, and I welcome this taskforce as an important first step,” said Ghani, who is only the second woman to hold the Department for Transport portfolio for the U.K.’s £40 billion maritime sector.

The International Oil Spill Response Technical Seminar brought together over 150 representatives of national government, oil industry and oil spill response companies. The local authorities at Shenzhen port within the Pearl River Delta have now formally announced that vessels will be required to use fuel oil with a sulphur content not exceeding 0.5% m/m, or equivalent emission reduction measures from 1 October 2016. Standard Club says it is as part of implementation of Emission control area (ECA) measures. This requirement extends to the ports of Yantian, Shekou, Chiwan, Mawan and Dachan Bay. Where equivalent measures are to be used, except when using shore power or Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), prior permission will need to be obtained from the Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration and the Human Settlements and Environment Commission of Shenzhen Municipality.
