MSC Unveils New Miami Cruise Terminal

MSC Group's Cruise Division has signed a contract with Fincantieri for the construction of a new mega cruise terminal at PortMiami, a North America and the Caribbean cruise hub.The new terminal reflects an investment of approximately €350 million ($414.4 million) and will be made up of a multi-level central body to serve as many as three latest generation ships at the same time, with up to 36,000 travelers transiting every day. Ballard Joins H2Ports Project

Ballard Power Systems Europe is providing technology to H2Ports project which will see Valencia’s port in Spain become the first in Europe to incorporate hydrogen energy in its operations.The developer and manufacturer of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell products said in a press release that H2Ports project is aimed at facilitating a rapid transition at European ports from fossil fuels to low-carbon, zero-emission alternatives based on hydrogen and fuel cells.Ballard Power Systems Europe, subsidiary of Canada's Ballard Power Systems Inc.,  said that earlier this month participants held the first technical meeting of the H2Ports project…

Port of Valencia Pilots IoT with MSC and Traxens

French start-up Traxens and  MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company is cooperating with its partner in a pilot project in Valencia to use an Internet-of-Things (IoT) network to improve the operational efficiency of the port.MSC is already working with Traxens, which provides data and services for the supply chain industry, on smart container solutions using IoT for customers around the world. The use of such real-time tracking technologies brings unprecedented visibility of cargo flow from door-to-door, adding efficiency, safety and predictability where historically chasing information has been time-consuming and expensive.The pilot project at MSC Terminal Valencia is being conducted in cooperation with the Port Authority at the Port of Valencia and Fundacion Valenciaport (FVP).

Konecranes Deliver RTG Trio to MSC

Konecranes has announced its third RTG delivery to the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) Terminal in Valencia, Spain. When the three RTGs on order go into operation, MSC Terminal Valencia will operate a fleet of 18 Konecranes RTGs. The cranes will be delivered by spring 2017. Sven Valentin, Terminal Manager of MSC Terminal Valencia, commented: “Our Konecranes RTGs are central to the continuing success of this terminal. They are high-performing, reliable machines that our operators like to drive. The 16-wheel RTGs will be equipped with Konecranes’ Active Load Control, Diesel Fuel Saver system, GPS Auto-TOS reporting and Auto-positioning. They will have a lifting capacity of 40 LT, stacking one-over-five containers high and six plus truck lane wide.

Kalmar to Upgrade MSC Terminal VLC (Valencia) Cranes

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has announced a large contract to heighten and extend the handling capabilities of eight ship-to-shore (STS) cranes at MSC Terminal VLC in Valencia, Spain. The order is the largest ever for Kalmar Crane Upgrades business. The project was signed into Cargotec's 2015 third quarter intake, and all cranes are scheduled to be operational by mid-2017. MSC Terminal VLC has chosen to upgrade their STS cranes to accommodate larger vessels in anticipation of growth in container movements. The Paceco cranes are currently limited to a maximum vessel size of 16,000 TEUs. Kalmar will extend the boom on all eight cranes by six metres and heighten six of the cranes by 10 metres, increasing the terminal's capacity to serve ships carrying up to 19,000 TEU (MSC OSCAR type).

New Straddle Carriers for MSC Terminal in Antwerp

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has gained an order to supply five Kalmar electric straddle carriers for MSC Home Terminal in Antwerp, Belgium. In addition, Kalmar will supply one new generation hybrid straddle carrier to the customer on a rental basis. The agreement was signed in August 2013 and the new units will be delivered in February 2014. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order. The order has been booked into Cargotec's 2013 third quarter order intake. MSC Home Terminal is a 50/50 joint venture between PSA and TIL.

Kalmar Heightens Six Quay Cranes at MSC Terminal

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, completed the heightening of six quay cranes at MSC Home Terminal, which is the largest container terminal in the port of Antwerp, Belgium. The project, undertaken by Kalmar's specialist Crane Services team, facilitates the continued expansion of the port by making it possible to handle larger container ships.
