MTN Launches Live HDTV At Sea

MTN Communications (MTN) has announced another maritime industry first with the launch of its high-definition live television service at sea, MTN Worldwide TV HD (MTN-TV HD). “MTN-TV HD delivers an amazing viewing experience onboard,” said Graham Douglas, media and communications manager, P&O Cruises and Cunard. “We can now experience TV at sea like we can at home. As we transformed the technology and ambience in our common areas, theaters and cabins, we evolved from small to large screens, so our requirement for HD became paramount. This service launch starts with IMG’s Sport 24 Channel in HD. The first-ever 24/7 sports channel designed for the maritime market, it is the most watched sports channel onboard MTN-TV customer vessels.

P&O Ferries, MTN Transform Sea Travel Communications

P&O Ferries and MTN Communications (MTN) announce the delivery of high-performance Internet connectivity and access to online content through the first Wi-Fi hot spot on the English Channel. This service is now live on the English Channel on ferries serving the P&O Ferries Dover-Calais route. These vessels are reportedly the first ferries in the world connected to the MTN Terrestrial Broadband Network (TBN), in addition to having back-up satellite connectivity, as many cruise ships do today.

MTN Broadband Coverage Expanding

After launching its Terrestrial Broadband Network (TBN) just more than one year ago, MTN Communications (MTN) announces the number of TBN-connected cruise ships has doubled and covered regions have tripled. Since the MTN TBN kick-off in Alaska in the Summer 2013 cruise season, several MTN partners, including Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises, are leveraging this new technology to enrich their passenger and crew communications experience. Thanks in part to this new technology, the MTN hybrid network now delivers approximately 10 Terabytes of data daily.

MTN Extends Prestige Cruise SatCom Partnership

MTN Communications (MTN) says it has extended the companies' 12-year relationship and will be introducing new communications services to its three-ship Regent Seven Seas Cruises fleet and five-ship Oceania Cruises operation. MTN explains that it delivers a complete communications solution including MTN Worldwide TV (MTN TV), Internet and voice services for passengers and crew, including the maritime-specific voice app for calling and messaging onboard and ship-to-shore. Prestige pioneered the launch of this app – MTN OceanPhone Mobile – onboard several of its vessels. OceanPhone Mobile leverages vessel Wi-Fi infrastructure and the reliable MTN network so crew can call and message with family and friends using their own smartphones and tablets.

MTN Lands Cruise Line SatCom Contracts

MTN Communications (MTN) says that three cruise operators around the world have selected the company for its passenger, crew, corporate communications and content services. Lindblad Expeditions – a pioneering travel company that works in partnership with National Geographic to provide expdeditions promoting conservation and sustainable tourism around the world. Pearl Seas Cruises has selected MTN as service provider for its inaugural ship, the 210 passenger Pearl Mist, which was recently launched in Baltimore. Windstar – a sailing luxury small ship cruise line offering the feel of a private yacht. The operator is renewing its ten-year relationship with MTN, including plans to leverage service on its two newest ships, the Star Breeze and Star Legend, bringing the total fleet to six.

MTN, Fred.Olsen Extend 4-Year Relationship

MTN Communications (MTN) announced Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines has extended its four-year relationship with the company. Fred.Olsen chose to increase the breadth of communications, content services and support MTN provides. The MTN partnership includes an enhanced onboard suite of connectivity options for passengers and crew. MTN will continue to provide crew calling and its Worldwide TV service (MTN TV). Known for exclusive service catering to European travelers, Fred.Olsen itineraries include the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Baltic regions; Norway; the British Isles and Africa.

MTN Launches Social Media Threat Intelligence

MTN Government (MTNGOV), a subsidiary of MTN Communications (MTN) and a company in satellite communications, cybersecurity and integrated intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) solutions serving U.S. DoD and civilian agencies worldwide, announced the introduction of the industry’s first “Social Media Threat Intelligence” managed service. This service is a predictive cyber solution that enables U.S. government agencies using social networking, mobile devices and distributed workforces to protect against the onslaught of cyber threats. The solution identifies and analyzes malicious actors, threats and targeted attacks against U.S. government leaders and agencies, and provides proactive, actionable threat analytics and intelligence in advance of any network compromise.

MTN Delivers OceanPhone Mobile

Calling, Messaging and Voicemail Solution, Specially Designed for the Crew. MTN Communications (MTN) announces the general availability of the first calling app for maritime crew. MTN OceanPhone Mobile leverages the Wi-Fi infrastructure on vessels, as well as the MTN network, for calling and messaging. The app runs independently of other subscribed services. MTN OceanPhone Mobile, an extension of MTN’s OceanPhone calling solution for crew, makes it possible for the crew to stay in touch using their own smartphones and tablets.

Carnival Inks Internet Service Deal with MTN

MTN Communications announced that Carnival Corporation & plc has signed a new agreement for the provision of Internet services to its guests and crew. The agreement covers several Carnival Corporation brands, including Princess Cruises, Cunard and P&O Cruises (U.K.), and will enable MTN to continue a partnership of more than 20 years in delivering crew welfare and passenger solutions to Carnival. MTN Communications (MTN) say they have signed a new agreement with Carnival Corporation & plc for the provision of Internet services to its passengers and crew. The agreement covers several Carnival Corporation brands, including Princess Cruises, Cunard and P&O Cruises (UK). Carnival has also extended its existing agreement for MTN broadcast television services, MTN Worldwide TV, which provides a wide range of television content including news and entertainment to 50 of its ships across the globe.

MTN Expands with New Services

Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), announced the inclusion of three new vessels in its current contract with Global Industries for VSAT services. Currently providing VSAT services on two of Global’s vessels, MTN will now install its communications suite on three additional barges. The new vessels, the Cheyenne, the Iroquois, and the Tonkawa, will now benefit from MTN’s communications advantages along with their sister barges the Navajo and Comanche. Global Industries provides offshore construction, engineering and support services including pipeline construction, platform installation and removal, and diving services to the oil and gas industry off most of the world’s coastlines.
