MTN's Richard Hadsall Appointed to WTA Board

MTN Government Services CTO Richard Hadsall appointed to World Teleport Association (WTA) Board. Hadsall founded MTN more than 30 years ago and today serves as the chief technology officer for MTN Government Services (MTNGS). Richard Hadsall’s teams drove the first full-motion satellite video broadcasts at sea for a military vessel, for a research vessel and for a cruise ship. MTN Commits to Intelsat Open Architecture Satellite Platform

Under a long-term agreement, MTN will leverage the first Intelsat EpicNG satellite, Intelsat 29e, to provide more than 2 gigabits of capacity for MTN's cruise and yacht customers in the Caribbean. The Intelsat EpicNG platform is a complementary overlay to Intelsat's leading global satellite network. Initially, MTN will utilize capacity on Intelsat's Ku-band mobile global broadband infrastructure. Once Intelsat 29e is launched in 2015, MTN will then partially transition to its custom-designed service on the Intelsat EpicNG platform, enabling MTN to deliver an unprecedented level of throughput in key Caribbean regions, especially for the cruise and yacht sectors.

MTN Satellite for MV Beluga Shanghai

MTN Satellite Communications (MTN) announced that it has been selected by German project- and heavy-lift carrier Beluga Shipping to install a broadband VSAT system on the new MV Beluga Shanghai. Beluga Shanghai is one of Beluga’s new P-class series of super heavy-lift vessels, which offers crane capacities between 800 and 1,400 tons and loading capacities of up to 20,000 deadweight tons. The shipboard VSAT’s will use MTN’s Ku-band network, which provides coverage over most of the major sea lanes around the world. The ship will also be equipped with Inmarsat Fleet Broadband 500 satellite terminals, which will be used as a secondary satellite connection with automatic switchover when out of Ku-band coverage area.

MTN Satellite Communications (MTN) said that Errol Olivier was appointed President and CEO. Olivier most recently served as the company’s President and COO. Olivier has over 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Prior to joining MTN, he served as President and CEO of Broadpoint and President and COO of CapRock Communications.
