Inditex Partners with Maersk to Reduce its Maritime Transport Emissions

Inditex, parent company of fashion brands such as Zara and Massimo Dutti, has partnered with Maersk to reduce its global GHG footprint from seaborne logistics by incorporating alternative fuels in all its inbound routes with the carrier.Through the ECO Delivery Ocean program, Maersk replaces fossil fuels on its ships with green fuels like green methanol or second generation biodiesel based on waste feedstocks. Samskip, Ocean Infinity Secure ENOVA Funds for Hydrogen-fuelled SeaShuttle Containership Pair

DP World Acquires Majority Stake in UNICO Logistics

Dubai-based DP World said it has agreed to acquire a 60% stake in South Korea's UNICO Logistics Co. Ltd. as the firm continues its expansion across the worldwide end-to-end logistics supply chain. The transaction, subject to regulatory clearances, is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2020.Established in 2002 by H.J. Park and headquartered in South Korea, UNICO is one of the largest independent NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) in South Korea, with a global footprint of 25 subsidiaries in 20 countries.

Maersk Outlines Year in Review, Outlook

Indonesia Gets 1st Kalmar Eco Reachstacker

Kalmar, the provider of cargo-handling solutions and services to ports, has signed a contract with Cikarang Dry Port, for the delivery of the first Kalmar Eco Reachstacker in Indonesia. Kalmar is part of Cargotec group.The order was booked into Cargotec’s 2019 second quarter order intake and scheduled for delivery in July of 2019.Cikarang Dry Port is a public inland port located in the eastern corridor of greater Jakarta. It serves direct export import for the surrounding industries under multimodal transport bill of lading provided by shipping lines partners. Kalmar first established its footprint in Indonesia in the 1980’s and during the past decades, it has worked in partnership with local dealer PT.

Samskip Readies Multimodal Network

Europe's largest multimodal transport group by freight volume Samskip said it is fully prepared for a North Sea container traffic surge, as attitudes harden in the run up to October's revised Brexit deadline.The global logistics company offering transport and related services by land, sea, rail and air said in a release that UK exporters and importers to start switching away from trailers and towards containerisation very soon, repeating a trend established in the run-up to the original deadline for Brexit.“We saw a significant push in container volumes up to March 2019, especially into Hull, as decision-makers facing uncertainity opted for the reliability and proven procedures of container shipping,” says David Besseling, Samskip UK Trade Manager.

PSA, SATS Mull Multimodal Transport Hub in Singapore

Port and terminal operator PSA International and ground handler and in-flight caterer  SATS have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in seamlessly connecting their sea and air transport services, with the goal of improving supply chain efficiency and boosting Singapore’s status as a multimodal transport hub.Under the MoU, PSA and SATS will work together on initiatives such as “yard-to-port” data linkages, network extensions between both companies, and enhanced track-and-trace capabilities. Rotterdam Port Expands Inland Shipping

Netherlands-based Port of Rotterdam, the largest port in Europe, has signed a partnership with the North Brabant region, the region of Eindhoven, north of Belgium, to realise increased container transport via inland shipping.In 2018, over 8.6 million containers were transhipped in the Port of Rotterdam (14.5 million TEU). EC Selects Enagás Initiative to Boost LNG

The ‘LNGHIVE2: Infrastructure and Logistics Solutions’ project, coordinated by Enagás, has been selected by the European Commission ‘Connecting Europe Facility’ (CEF) for funding.The initiative aims to boost the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a fuel for maritime and rail transport. Contship Italia Group has been pulling all the stops to increase its intermodal offering during the past months.Italy’s leading service provider for integrated global supply chains said that its Rail Hub Milano (RHM) and its gateway ports La Spezia and Ravenna serve as backbone of the Group’s growing intermodal network.La Spezia is geographically located within a range of 320 km from the key economic regions in Italy, accounting for over 47% of the total Italian GDP. Number of Indian Seafarers Jump by 42.3%

The number of seafarers in India has seen an unprecedented growth of 42.3% due to various policy level changes brought in by the Government in the last four years, said a Minister in India.According to Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport & Highways, Chemical & Fertilizer, from 108,446 seafarers in 2013, India now has 154,349 seafarers. Samskip Launches Netherlands-Italy Rail Service

DP World to Develop Kazakhstan's Special Economic Zones

Dubai Ports (DP) World, the global port operator of the United Arab Emirates (UAE),   and the government of Kazakhstan signed two framework agreements in Abu Dhabi today relating to the acquisition, governance and management of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in Aktau and Khorgos. DP World has been providing management services to the Port of Aktau, Kazakhstan’s main cargo and bulk terminal on the Caspian Sea, and Khorgos SEZ, which is strategically situated on the China-Kazakhstan border and has been acting as the primary transit point for trans-Eurasian cargo trains for more than four years. MOL Allies with NCC

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a capital and business alliance agreement with chemical tank specialist logistics provider Nippon Concept Corporation (NCC). Port Authority of Strasbourg Partners with HAROPA

The Port Authority of Strasbourg (PAS) in France and port operator HAROPA of the Port of Le Havre have inked an agreement regarding four areas of cooperation – in rail, river and sea, innovation, and promotional capabilities, PAS said. "In the presence of Catherine Trautmann, Chairman of PAS, Jean-Louis Jérôme, Executive Director of PAS, and Hervé Martel, Vice-president of HAROPA & Executive Director of HAROPA-Port of Le Havre, have signed a partnership agreement aiming at enhancing their cooperation," said a press statement. Market Conditions Unchanged: Containerships

Multimodal transport company Containerships said the guidance for 2017 remains unchanged. In 2017, Net Sales are expected to grow by 5-10% and EBITDA for the full year is expected to improve on the previous year. The company does not expect any major changes in market conditions. The challenging situation in the Mediterranean is expected to continue. Work on building the LNG vessels is ongoing and delivery will take place as planned in 2018.In addition, the company will continue to focus on developing LNG-fuelled truck trafffic, Containerships said. Samskip Scoops up Nor Lines

European multimodal transport provider Samskip said it will acquire activities associated with Nor Lines AS, marking a major expansion of its shipping, transport and logistics businesses in Norway. Subject to approval by Norway’s competition authorities, Samskip has agreed with the DSD Group to acquire the activities of Nor Lines, which generate an average annual turnover of €110 million ($128.2 million). With its head office in Stavanger, Nor Lines is a diversified logistics business offering domestic and international services.

Greece, Bulgaria to Create Multimodal Corridor Between Ports

Bulgaria and Greece agreed to expand Multimodal Freight Corridor Between Black Sea, Aegen Sea and Dunabe. Bulgarian Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski and Greek Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Christos Spirtzis have agreed to extend the multimodal transport corridor between the two countries connecting the ports of Varna, Burgas, Kavala and Alexandroupoli. The Greek part accepted Bulgaria’s proposal to include a connection with the port of Ruse in the joint project. This will result in a multimodal corridor servicing road, rail, sea and river transport, as well as a shortcut to the countries along the Danube.
