Bumi Armada, Shapoorji Pallonji JV to Set Up FSRU in Mumbai Harbour

Mumbai Harbour Channel and JN Port Channel to Expand

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, India chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Wednesday approved fresh estimates of the project Deepening and Widening of Mumbai Harbour Channel and JN Port Channel (Phase-II). The cost of the project will be Rs 2029 crore excluding the Service Tax. The entire project cost will be funded through internal resources of JN Port Trust (JNPT) with market borrowing, if necessary. The project includes the existing channel to be widened from presently 370 m to 450 m for straight reach, channel to be extended from existing 33.5 Kms to 35.5 Kms. The draft of the channel will be increased from existing 14 m draft to 15 m draft. The estimated quantity to be dredged to the tune of 35.03 million cu.mtr. including 1.73 million cu.mtr. rock dredging.

Govt Asks Mumbai Port to Compete with Private Ports

Mumbai Port Trust needs to bring about administrative reforms to develop ability to compete with the private ports, said Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport & Highways, Chemicals & Fertilizers, Mansukh L. Mandaviya on an inspection visit to Mumbai Port Trust. He further expressed a need for the port to have a clear vision and road map for development for next ten to twenty years and appealed to all the stakeholders to work in this direction. India Seize Russian Ship after 11-Hour Chase

In a dramatic nightlong sea-air coordinated chase, the Indian Coast Guard ship interdicted a Russian Federation Flagged Cargo Vessel MV Sevastopol, which was under order of arrest issued by the Madras High Court, about 100 nautical miles north-west of Mumbai. MV Sevastopol, anchored at 15 nautical miles (28 km) north-west of the Mumbai coast in Alpha Anchorage, had switched off its Automatic Identification System (AIS), Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) and navigational equipment, and tried to flee around 1 am IST yesterday (Tuesday) in an attempt to escape the judicial proceedings. The vessel managed to sail up to 110 nautical miles (204 km) away from the coast till it was interdicted by the Coast guard officials commanded by Umed Singh.

Mumbai Harbour wall berthing

With effect from 1 June 2014, Mumbai Harbour wall berthing at 18, 19, 20 and 21 Harbour Wall vessels will berth starboard side alongside and will have draft restriction of 8.5 meters. Vessels may berth port side alongside at 18 habour wall depending upon the weather and tidal conditions. Port of Mumbai: Monsoon Season & Availability of Anchorages

The foul weather season has been declared from May 25 to August 31, in the Port of Mumbai. During this period, the anchorage area of the [Mumbai] inner harbour is restricted to a line, which is normally north of the Sunk Rock Light House position. Hence, the number of anchorages that can be utilized would be restricted due to non-availability of anchorages to the south of this line. There is a possibility that A-3 anchorage also may not be available. Mumbai Port Trust will try and accommodate as many vessels as possible but may have to deny anchorage facilities due to non-availability of anchorage berths.
