ClassNK First Nickel Ore Carrier Registered

Nickel Ore Carrier

The world’s largest classification society ClassNK (Chairman & President: Noboru Ueda), announced that the world’s first specialized vessel for the carriage of Nickel Ore has been built and registered to the NK class. The vessel, the Jules Garnier II, was built by Naikai Zosen Corporation and delivered to Japanese shipping major JX Shipping Co. Ltd on 19 September 2012, and is the first vessel in the world to be recognized as a Specially Constructed Cargo Ship for the carriage of Nickel Ore in accordance with the IMO’s IMSBC Code.

ClassNK Issues First Ever Statement of Fact for Tier III NOx Emissions for an SCR-equipped Diesel Engine. ClassNK announced today that it had awarded its first ever Statement of Fact for Tier III nitrogen oxide (NOx) reductions to a marine diesel engine incorporating a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system. Panama Approves Specialized Nickel Ore Bulker

Vessel built by Naikai Zosen for Nissho Shipping will become first NK classed ship to incorporate special construction for carriage of liquefiable cargoes.
